Maybe. Or perhaps if everyone in England these days just wasn't such a **** then we wouldn't have these issues.

agree completely did they use to have these problems 30-40 years ago? sure they did ofc but not on the scale we see today

i wont say its the parents fault cos that isnt always the case sometimes its purely down to the child in question

solution? stop wasting money on pointless schemes spend it on the police force to give us officers to police the rougher areas and town centers

prevention is better than cure

Thats a shitty excuse for the weak willed, if people wanted to get out of that lifestyle then they can. There are areas that have shown people can change when they want to. Just because you are brought up in a less than perfect area doesn't mean you have to live your life like that.

As I said, its easy for someone like yourself, who has no experience of what its really like to say that.

Tell me, how does a child, living in a poverish area, with no jobs, schools that dont care one iota for the students, non existant colleges, actually manage to make it out of the ghetto?

Up sticks and move to one of these areas and then come on here and tell us all how easy it is. Until then, STFU

It's spork crime you really have to watch out for!

On a more serious note, we also need to give the police more powers so that they are actually effective, rather than all the paperwork crap they have to do know, and all the "human rights" and "health and safety" bollocks they have to deal with atm.

Increase stop and search powers one way to solve it stop and search every group of chavs hanging around cauing trouble. But to do that people will need to stop the racial bull shit that surrounds stop and search.

If you can't send them all to prison then fine the parents £2000 if they are poor council house dwelers move them somewhere else. Make the parents start caring what the kids are doing.

The most important thing i think we need to do is make people scared of the Police and Jail though without being radical im not sure how its best done.

I know a few cops and they think the way round this is to fit them all with a recorder and rather than have PCSO on the street have them fill out all the paper work so the real police show up drop off the crim and then head back out.

So the two french students who got stabbed two hundred times and set on fire happened pretty close to where i live. Now the local paper is reporting that the guy who did it went down to the police station (biggest station in europe) and tried to hand himself in, he had burns all over his hands etc but the police just told him to wait at the back of the queue :p

Although I wasn't alive 30 years ago, my mum likes to regale me with stories about what it was like back when she was a kid. The thing that sticks out is when she says she was a bit of a tearaway but wouldn't do anything serious because everyone knew who she was. If she did anything bad, her mum would know about it in 5 minutes and she'd be smacked half to death. The breakdown in Community has a lot to answer for.

I've never lived in a particularly nasty place, but some of the blame has to go to places like where i spent some of my childhood - commuter suburbs. From the age of about 10 - 14 we lived in a suburb of Southampton called Hedge End which used to be a little village untill the motorway was built, and then they buiklt around 100,000 houses there which were all moved into by young to middle aged couples who don't do anything. There is nothing to do in places like this because no-one knows anyone else so they drive to their friends houses, they don't go down the local because it's full of the derisery characters. As a result of people driving to places to have fun, there are no commodities and kids have nothing to do. So despite it being a fairly affluent suburb, there are kids drinking in bus shelters and fighting and carrying knives. All of this is a result of their being absolutely no sense of community.

I can imagine it's the same in the proper ghetto's. Cheap housing means immingrants move in, the society becomes fractured etc etc.
