Don't know if this has been done before, but we all have phobia's. It might be spiders or cracks in the pavement, things that freak you out or stuff that just puts a shiver down your spine

I was talking about it the other day to a Russ, and one thats quite common, but a bit odd, is some peoples phobia of buttons, they cant wear clothes with any buttons on......??

But mine, i think is a bit odd and i have never met anyone who shares the same problem. its newspapers

I can't stand the smell of them or to touch them, it started when i was young, i think it was the smell of the news print, and even though the production of them has changed, i still cant go near one, it must be psychological

Whats yours...??

We all have them? No we don't. The closest thing I have to it is a pathological hatred for annoying moths. They don't scare me or anything.

I think the "we" was denoting normal people Wazz, so me you and the rest of FH aren't included :(

On topic though, I hate fish, they used to scare the living shite out of me.

I worked at a petshop with a fish section and on day I had to clear the weed out of the bottom of the tanks by putting my hand in and scrunching up the gravel at the bottom, with the fish in the tank at the time. Christ I didnt like that much :D but after doing it I wasnt quite as scared anymore... obviously I didnt go near the pirhania tanks though, those evil little bastards still unsettle me!

I have a phobia about work.
I'm not sure what it is but I have a strange pathological aversion to it.

I aren't really scared of anything. I even quite like heights.

I have more of a phobia about my sons well-being, I get thoughts in my head about bad things, I always think what it would be like if a nutter broke into his nursery and stuff.

I do hate the sound of metal being dragged across sand or grit though, like a brickies trowel on the bricks, I hate that noise.

Ooooh wait I am scared of something, flying, it will be a cold cold day in hell the next time I fly. Strange really because like I said earlier I enjoy heights. I reckon if I was flying the plane I would be ok, everyone else would be fucked though :D

Wasps make me retarded. Fall to the ground, squeeling, whimperingly retarded. Its incredibly embarrassing.

Parasites also make me a little crazy. I had headlice and I tried to run away from my own head while crying. If that cat has a tic I will have to retreat to the far side of the room while ushering Kieran over to deal with it. I can never holiday anywhere where you can get botfly.

I used to be really bad at flying, but I'm a bit better now. I still spasm and flail my arms around if the plane hits turbulence, but thats a marked improvement.

Not really a phobia, but geese are shits.

Trem, same here - even worse is shovels on ground. Nnnngh.

The thing about your child is natural - I stayed awake all night watching for every movement and whimper, thinking "he's looking slightly too yellow, what's that rash on his head, I hope those spots don't get worse" and things like that - things I've already been told are fine and normal but still doesn't relieve the niggling doubt at the back of the mind.

I quite like spiders. Up to a certain point, when they no longer have stick/hair thin legs and actually appear to have meat on them. Then I'm a complete wuss :D

Also, if it's a phobia or just a normal fear I don't know - but I can't be a passenger in a car. Driving, fine. Back of a coach, fine. Back or front seat of a car and I'm a wreck because I'm not in control.

Parasites also make me a little crazy.

Thats weird - I share those two - the wasps thing started when I got stung when I was maybe 6/7 - now its metamorphosed into a strong desire to kill them but no real fear - I have even crushed them in my hand before - getting pretty resistant to their stings :p

My daughter is in absolute terror of wasps so I guess thats a pretty common one.

The parasite thing may have started when I found a bunch of leeches in the local river or possibly from just reading about them - I utterly detest the whole concept of parasites.

However it doesnt stop me de-ticking the dog - I even got quite skilled at removing them without leaving their mouthparts in the wound...

My weirdest one is heights - I know its quite a common one but for me its not like a fear but a strange attraction - I feel a pull towards the edge which is weird!

I'm fine with heights, but the guy i work with gets scared standing on the edge of the curb.

As for wasps and bees, again i just let them fly around me, i find they go away a lot quicker if you leave them be

Quite like spiders too

I used to be utterly phobic about wasps....would literally run a ile screaming and flapping. Now they just irritate me. I thoroughly dislike spiders, and the bigger they are, the more I hate them, but I am a lot better than I used to be, pretty much since I moved in with Vae. he is SO phobic of them, it falls to me to get rid of them, so I've had to learn to cope with it to some degree. This coming from someone who once left 7 upturned pint glasses on the floor all weekend until her mother got home, as she couldn't bear to get close to the spiders underneath them.

Considering my job, you may find this odd, but I am now phobic about vomiting. Other people doing it is never pleasant, and I have found myself retching in response to it on more than one occasion, but If I think I am going to be sick, or even if I feel sick, I really start to panic. Which, of course, makes the sick feeling 10 times worse.

Hnnnnngghhhh yes that almost turns me into a crying ball on the ground, also those sandpaper nail file things, they are awful as well.

Your kid thing is so what I was like, we had him in our room next to us but we also had a breathing monitor that set an alarm off if he stops breathing OR if he rolls over off the pad like he did about 5 times a night. That was the worst noise I have ever heard.

I hate the sound flying insects make when they...err...fly. Also I have a completely irrational fear of sharks: even as a kid I could psych myself up so bad I wouldn't get out of bed or off a chair because a shark could be swimming in our tiled floor.

Also as a kid I once read a kids story about a boy finding a shark egg on a beach, taking it home and keeping it in a salt water aquarium. Then he dropped a bottle of -iirc- vitamin E in the tank, the shark mutated, could fly and breathe air (but was friendly). After that I didn't want to leave the house because I already knew what mako's, hammerheads, tigers, whalers and great whites looked like.

I have three big fears: Heights, spiders and zombies. I've taken up climbing to try and get used to heights and I force myself to pick up spiders and take them outside when I find them, but I don't have a clue how I'm going to cure my zombie fear.

I think I was scared of everything when I was a kid, but nothing really bothers me now; I was terrified when I skydived for the first time, but I'm guessing that's fairly normal!

My girlfriend on the other hand, has a pathological fear of cats; she literally turns into a quivering wreck if one gets too close. She's actually having something called EFT to try and overcome it (and it seems to be working). Its quite unnerving because if you're not the kind of person with phobias its very difficult to empathise (well, for me anyway), and I have to fight my overwhelming desire to take the piss.

I *hate* the thought of dry sponges touching me. Vile, vile, vile. Wet sponges aren't much better.

If its working stick with it - a lot of folk go down the hypnotherapy route or the gradual de-sensitization route (by starting off with images of the phobic thing and gradually increasing exposure).

You sure you dont have any phobias - not even a little?

Actually I've had my current car for over 5 years now, and I've never washed it once. It's not filthy either. Dunno how.
