I filled up earlier, I'm sure if my tank had been on its arse I'd be looking at £50
The real cut is that the "no more tax" labour shitheads want to up the tax as well. Great way to see more tanker disruption methinks.

Doesn't bother me, I don't pay VAT on my fuel, and I charge most of it back to my clients :D

I hope it drives those lazy fuckers who can't be arsed to get a bus/train/use legs out of their cars, less people to get in my way.

Never gonna happen Tom, people will not go on public transport rather than use their cars. They can charge £1.50 per litre for petrol and people will still drive. Its just a bullshit reason that the goverment uses to justify the tax on petrol, they know public transport is shit, they also know that people will always prefer to drive.

I'm sick of hearing the same old argument "we are raising tax on petrol to make people buy smaller cars and to encourage use of public transport" its a load of bollocks.

Im stuck between a rock and a hard-place on this one.

On the one hand petrol prices suck, too high etc.

On the other, I work for a big oil company, who'm I have shares in. High prices rock.

:( and :)

If public transport was better it would, but government can't seem to make any "Noticable Changes".

For instance, if i got out in the town near me the last bus back is @ 10.... i mean what use is that.

Its like the government is tryin to push people away from cars by raising the petrol prices, but not pulling them by making better Public Transport.

Where is common sense nower days......... Lets spend millions on a war in another country and then not have anythign left to invest in domestic affairs.

That depends on how many people are there to use the bus. Its hardly efficient to have a bus travelling around with 2 people in it. Better to use a taxi.

Didn't a previous government privatise bus services?

Though the buses in Edinburgh are great. They run all night now. :)

I agree lets start a campaign to see trem in a mini (skirt)

Back onto the subject, i think bus services are good in cities but i live a bit away from Brighton and so services don't reach that far :(
Train service to brighton is good but ends at 11ish...

But Eastbourne which is slightly nearer is harder to get to...

I thought the general idea of Eastbourne was that you go there to die when you're old?

Takes me 10 mins along the motorway to get from my house to Uni in the morning.

Takes 3 buses and 1h 30m to get to Uni from my house via the bus. I really can't see me giving up my creature comforts.

However, now the nice weather is in, I might look to cycling in.

Public Transport is fine here in London, in fact I'd say better than fine. I didn't own a car in Boston either since the L was pretty good.

well funnily enough .....

the coalition forces announce they are working on a plan to remove the occupying force quicker than previously stated and within days opec announce they will increase production of oil.

anyone see a connection here at all?

Not really, seeing as opec control production of oil, theres still plenty to go around (so far).

Public Transport.
Today I had to get to London, not far from the Old Bailey.
I drove, Left at 6am got there at 10:45, parked outside the door of office I was visiting.
Left at 12:30 ish got home (Southport) at 5:20.

Had I gone by public transport....
Somehow get to Southport train station. No idea which bus, probably would have got a taxi.
Then either...
get a train from Southport to Liverpool Central (iirc every 30 mins), then walk across Liverpool City Centre carrying a lappy in the early hours :( over to Liverpool Lime Street. Train then to Euston.
or Train to Manchester (iirc every hour) then train to wherever in London they go to.
In both cases tube on to my destination.
Total cost I really don't know, but I'm guessing £100/£150 for the train, I can't book this stuff in advance.
Plus today has been hot, and my car has air con + the roof comes down :)
Total cost of fuel for car +/- £65.

No arguement there for public transport as far as I can see.
