Today i went to work (brickie) and i was finishing off a garden wall for a lady. I said at the start off the week i wanted paying thursday when i finished. So i went and knocked on the door and i told her that i have finished and could she pay me. So i took her to the wall i have just finished and she stood there and said 'Im not paying'. She said the brickwork wasn't up to a good enough standard. So i stand there for about 30 mins trying to get her to pay me and i just lost it and went to the van and got my hammer i went to start knocking the wall down and she was running up to me with the money in her hand. The money was in her pocket all the time she just wanted it done for free.I just can't understand why she wouldent pay me. I have had this done to me a few times. Anyone else had this done to them?

Why were you doing substandard brickwork?

It wasn't substandard. She was just saying that so she didn't have to pay.

Hmmm... Was I the only person to notice there's been a deleted post on this thread? Good on you YoDa, they refuse to pay, take it back down :D

Well I would do exactly the same, if I had built a wall for someone and they refused to pay I would take it down again, not sure what the problem with that is?

If you sold a car to someone and they refused to pay you would take it back wouldn't you?

Going off topic to reply: Yeah, somebody posted something like "Why is the fact she's asian got anything to do with it" - I can see why it was posted (can't remember who by) but it was there. Surely it wasn't the point of the thread, so I think they realised they were being picky.

I told Yoda I was deleting his comment, it seemed uncalled for in my opinion.

Everyone is a cock at some stage, whatever their race, creed or colour.

If anyone has a problem with my deletions please PM me to discuss it.

Drag her in the house, then smash her fucking families faces in. When she's crying her eyes out at their mangled corpses, calmly say "Look what you caused, all for £xxx" then tell her you'll be back next week for a bit of slap and tickle.

Arseholes are arseholes whatever their background, as Trem says; from my experience none of those factors matter for shit.

Yes, I'm the kind of person who might have snapped and taken a hammer to the wall also. So good on you there :) Apart from dicks buying alcohol which has become normal for me in my job, the most entertaining was when working on a show site and coming across someone who didn't want to queue to leave. 50k people there that day and he was special. Had a driver too. Got the driver to take a fence down. So me and a mate stood in front of his vehicle. The guy in the back seat was rat-arsed and had some poor student type driving / removing fences etc.. He wasn't allowed to wind the window down to talk to me. So I opened the driver door, turned the car off, took the keys and walked away. I am still waiting to be sued. The site manager made me give the keys back, I was shipped off to another part of the site and the guy in question proceeded to run over a guy I worked with. Least he got arrested then.

Hmm.

:drink:

edit: Oh, and I hope you've been on the beers Bahumat.

Ok, don't want to get involved in the edited theme of this thread, but i would have taken a hammer to it too, its the principal of it.

I get it all the time, you give someone a quote and the first question they ask is 'what discount do i get' or 'Is that your best price'....no love, i am ripping you off and seeing if you would go for it, but as you've asked i'll drop it by 20%.....Duh !!!!!

Its the old folk who are the main culprits, you get 'i am on a pension, don't you know'.........oh f**k off you've got more money than all of us put together

Arrrrrrrrggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh !!!!!!!!!

Ref Edmonds comment, to be fair there are two sides to every story. I have tradesmen mates and they definitely overquote if they're busy or don't fancy the job. Also, my old mum has paid way over the odds for simple work in the past. Not all brickies/chippies/sparkies etc are rip-off merchants by a long shot, but enough are to keep the cliche going.

And ref Yoda's situation, yep fair enough, she was taking the piss. But it's also fair for customers to complain about shit work and get a discount.

The trick is in finding a decent Co. and keep using him/them.

Nice one taking a hammer to her wall, bet she wasn't expecting that one :worthy:

I work for a software company and while we don't have actual physical walls to hit with hammers, we have had similar situations to what you were in, where clients get all the software done, installed, tested, accepted and then decide they aren't paying for it.
So of course now we build in the 'its gonna break in a month' feature, nothing too serious, just something annoying that will have them calling us for support and if they haven't paid, well then we take great pleasure in telling them how very sorry we are that the software they didn't pay for is causing them problems. Amazing how quickly they pay then :)

Whatever happened to good old fashioned trust from one person to another? Plenty of legal methods to sort out these sort of issues without making you look unprofessional or a moron.

That especially applies to Nasgard tbh. Not everyone is a moron, and working on "guilty until proven innocent" basis like that is asking for trouble. In fact, if you'd like to tell me what software company it is, I'll glady ensure it's removed from the companies house quicker than a pirated porn ring.

TBH Kryt I wouldn't bash him too heavily for it.

I get it all the time on my support line where customers have owed us £6000 or so and they've rang up expecting support for the software they haven't paid for.

In fact the latest for this was someone ringing me up saying "I want you to fix this now, I currently owe you £6000 and i'm not paying it until you fix this."

I told him to fuck off in a kind manner.

People who expect help without paying for it can bloody well fuck right off.

If you get it that many times you wouldn't go through the legal system tbh Kryten, you might once but then you'd realise how much time it takes, how much money it costs you in business, how much stress it puts on you, your family... A hammer is a much quicker way of dealing with morons.

We only have a small business, there are only 2 of us, so we need to get the work. We try not to overquote because you wont get asked again, also we dont advertise a service that we wouldn't be able to cope with, whats the point of taking on a job you cant do properly, it only ends up costing you more in the end when you have to get someone else in to dig you out of the shit

I know there are people out there who are rip off merchants and and charge silly money for jobs. a lot of our work is repairing rather than re-newing (windows) sometimes it's just a handle that needs changing, and the cutomers say to us 'i was told i would have to change the whole window at a cost of £500' when in reality its a £50 job.

Its like getting a puncture and the garage saying 'see the problem is mate, they dont make them tyres anymore, you need to spend £15k on a new car' its bollocks, but unfortuantly there are people out there who will say ok then, heres £500, i'll have a new window please. all the time thats happening, then the cowboys will pray on it

Sharma, Nate; that's exactly it, I guess I'm just too old and still believe a little that folks can be decent, and I hate to see the world resorting to petty little things to solve otherwise simple matters.

I can fully understand the support issue, I've been there myself; rather than being heavy handed though, in that instance I did inform them that as they were breaking their licence agreement (in not having kept up to date with payments for said licence) we couldn't offer support until they did. They also tried the "well we're not paying until it's fixed" line, but all I could do was calmly refuse and inform them that we would be taking the matter to small claims within 7 days if they had not paid up. 3 days later they'd paid.

A lot of people these days appear to expect something for nothing, which in turn equates to greed. I really, really hate greedy people. Because there's a huge open source community out there flourishing under difficult circumstances, people expect everyone else should be able to operate in the same manner. In YoDa's case, I'll admit from his previous posts I'd already thought of him as a git before replying to this thread or what he'd done, and for Nasgard, he'd signed up apparently specifically to post to this thread, hence I made quick judgement. I could be perfectly wrong in doing that, but you know me by now :)

But, for the time being I'll stand by what I said purely on the strength of my own morals, being right or wrong. I don't understand why some people chose to operate in this manner but it appears to boil down to having very little choice to stay afloat in a cut-throat world :(

Pretty sure that can't be legal.
