OT : Razor 2000 vs MS Intellimouse Optical

Just been testing my new Razor Boomslang 2000 against my MS Optical Intellimouse and the Optical wins hands down.

It seems impossible to do per pixel aiming with the Razor. I cant seem to get within 10 pixels of a target.

Tried loads of different settings and sensitivties. The Razor seems to rock slightly on the ball, and at 2000 DPI that rock moves the pointer 5-10 pixels. cause its a ball, it still sticks everynow and then, but then I do have sweaty palms while playing.

Anyone else got any opinions on this. Anyone want to buy a Razor 2000 ?

ps ... BW servers are looking busy :) , but dont kick me, its not my fault I hit the wrong guy every now and then.

Thing about Razors is they take a week or so to get used to. I've had mine a couple months now, and at 1280x1024, I can target any pixel on the screen without moving my hand more that a half-inch in any direction.

I've never experienced any sticking or ball rocking from mine, it has little "lifter" feet so the ball just touches the playing surface.

If you're experiencing these issues, I suggest you try getting yourself a decent mousing surface such as an Everglide or a Ratpad, and give it a chance before you bin it.

Start with the sensitivity on low (like 4 or 5) on the mouse, and work your way up to 10. By the time you reach 10, you're barely moving your hand at all, it's sooo nice.

Since I got used to my boomslang, my optical unit has taken up residence on my bedroom shelf :)

If prefer the BS 1000 to the 2000, but both of them take a week or so to get use to.

Fusion uses the ms optical.

Hmmpph.

Maybe I got sent a fooked mouse.

I've got a 3m everglide precise gaming surface thing.

Razor 2000 : 2 kills : Score -3

MS Optical : 36 kills : Score 28

And I've been practicing with it for a good couple of weeks now.

I think maybe I would have been better off with a 1000, I tend to use quite a low sensitivity and I heard that the 1000s are better for this.

I'll struggle on the time being and hope it improves.

I have a BS 2k and an MS Optical Explorer on a RatPad surface.

When playing Q3 with my original BS 2k I found it invaluable, really smooth and accurate etc. That was until it went "pear shaped" about 4 months later with a busted internal mouse tracking wheel.

If it works, use it :) My MS optical does the job just fine and I for quality/cash, I think it's hard to beat.

Some people seem to get lucky with their BS2k's, you either get a good one, or an old-dog, which says something about their quality control/build quality. I have had 2 Boomslang replacements sent to me in the period of 6 months, and now I have a brand new one sitting in it's box unused. Anyone fancy it ? :D

Razers future "Mamba" mouse looks promising though, I have my eye on one of those, though I will be sure to wait a couple of months before buying one just to see how end-users get on with them.

If the quality is anything like the BS's I think I'll be giving that puppy a very wide berth. ;)

I couldnt live without my MS Optical now.

It took me a good month to get comfortable with it but the improvement was imense.

I get through around 1 every 8 months. They just stop working. No lights - nothing. :(

Yep Mantis, I've had 3 in about 9 months. Its the cable where it goes into the mouse, seems to get loose, then dies. Try waggling it a bit. Is your email working mantis ? Tried to send you an email but it keeps bouncing.

Sogokhan, whats this Mamba mouse, I thought Razer were out of business now, well thats what it said on the site. I was told I had got one of the last mice from Razer in the world.
:p

Indeed Bob, Razer have gone out of biz since I last checked their site early this year, news to me :)

The mamba was a small, equally strange-looking ball mouse that was planned for release this year. It looks like that won't happen now though given that Razer's parent company has spent all it's pocket money.

Thankfully the MS Optical is still being made for those interested in buying a mouse with good build quality ;)
