Thanks bud, will give that a look when the phone has a full charge, all this Orange branded crap is getting me down, can't even switch off 3G and connect to the internet only via wifi, it constantly wants to use 3G even though there is a rocksolid wifi connection up.

Orange can't charge you for using wifi mate :) It is a dirty trick but i have seen a few phones with operator software which forces you to use a slower 3g connections.

Now I am really confused, ran MrPigfish and it says the phone is gen1. Build number suggests gen2, really don't want to brick this and I have 2 others to do for friends as well. :/

I just ran MrPigfish and went with what he said. I didn't check my build number.

I think the build number is the Orange Rom you have rather than hardware.

Brilliant phone, can't speak highly enough of it. Running Jellyfish rom now, I just wish there was a way to add flash support, the cpu is more than capable.

Bought it today, and flashed a 2.2 rom onto it, from modaco.com.

Not a bad little phone. Well, actually, an excellent phone for £100 (even though the shop made me buy a £20 topup card as well). A bit slow and clunky compared to my Nexus One but then again it cost a fraction of the price.

Nice and lightweight, too. I think my sister will be delighted with it, now she can browse Facebook and the like whenever she wants.

What's sound qual like? I'm looking to get one smart phone, but I'm worried about talking and hearing. My mate has a Iphone and he sounds quiet and shit compared to my candybar style phone.

It is pretty decent, a step down from what you are used to but more than good enough imo.

How do they compare to the BB Pearl? 50% of my business is on the phone, I have to make half the sale on phone before I can meet them. So sound quality and ease of hearing is biggest factor for me. If they can't hear me good or I have to keep saying, what it won't go down well.

GPS also is a biggy for me, been using Ovi maps on my GFs Nokia X6 and it's pretty shit. Can you install TomTom on Android? You can get the cracked version on PDAs etc.

Only reason i'm holding off on a smartphone and looking to bb pearl (it's candybar), is because i'm scared of it being shit and uncomfortable to hear/talk.

Plenty of GPS software available. As for voice, well mine is just fine, not as good as my ancient Samsung or Nokia but not far off. If you know the Pearl is excellent at that though and has your GPS then you should really go for that, work is what pays for everything else. ;)

Hmmm, hard choice, i'm not the best with phones, I'm still lacking behind with phone tech :p People say Android is the future and my mate thinks BB is old tech and waste of cash.

Looks like you can get better satnav apps on Android compared to BB as well. Maybe even get a ported TomTom app from a PDA. So really it just comes down to call quality, do you think the ZTE is good for another few years with ever improving Android platform?

Still would never spend £500 on a phone or anything near that, fucking retarded imo. What do you need it for apart from calling, texting and internet / GPS use? People seem to need a app to wipe their arse these days, they have all these great features and speed. But suck at what they were invented for, calling.

Well with custom-mods you can already run android versions way beyond what the manufacturer intended. They ship with 2.1 but there are custom roms for 2.2 2.3 and 3.0 so I think it is going to be around for a while. It isn't the highest performance phone around but for 80 quid it is pretty incredible. Have a look on android market for GPS software, there is tons of it.

Tempting to get one, £80 is so cheap ... not sure how I would get one here though. Suppose buy one on ebay and get it shipped over.

Put CM7 (7.1.0) on my OSF now. It seems really stable now and very pretty.

ZTE Blade (Gen1): Radio Conversion and Recovery - CyanogenMod Wiki

In addition there's a Flash 10.2 apk available for ARM6 processors which I've put on which allows Flash, including Youtube, to run in your browser. Can't remember the link, google it.

Finally, Dolphin seems to be getting a bit slow nowadays so I'm using Angel Browser now. Very nippy (the odd bug though).

It's like a whole new phone :)

Orange wouldn't be stupid enough to release it without one mate.

I hoped that with the Monte Carlo but hadn't seen one when I was looking. I ended up buying the Acer Liquid Metal Fuzzy Logic posted about.

Fuzzy Logic said:
Was looking for a relatively cheap smartphone for me dad, settled for the Acer Liquid Metal in the end. Wonder if they'll sell it at that price, heh.

Took a while to turn up but I'm happy with it, battery runs out pretty fast but I suppose as I only just got it I'm using it quite a lot.

I think it's unlocked already(does that mean it can run on any network?) and running gingerbread, it says in the settings it's running 2.3.6 it is running Acer firmware though, would that be removed if I did that?

Would it be better to get Ice Cream Sandwich on it?

Anyone updated to a newer firmware recently? My old CM7.0 is flaky as fuck and has started dialling out on it's own, think I am going to have to wipe and install a new rom.
