Eve isn't everyone's cup of tea. Unlike DaoC it doesnt pander to the gratification of powerlevelling by virtue of the way progression is determined. However, it's depth and potential is unrivalled by any current mmog. (And please bear in mind that sadly I've been in gaming longer than a healthy majority of you have been alive). Having been in beta for 2 months and already had 3 player wipes (latest today, the buggers) it has lost 0 appeal for me...I just want more hours in the day to play it.
Fundamental differences with DaoC? No exping. A truly persistant universe which will develop at the speed of the players (100k potential on 1 server). An array of equipment available that gives everyone the potential to be unique without having to scrap over rare drops (OK - SC has changed that). A manner of training which means you can diversify or specialise to your hearts content with 1 char if you so wish. You also won't be dominated in the medium term by the 23/7 no-lifers due to the way progression works. Graphically it is stunning and never boring. 5000 systems to wage war in (Err...Emain???) and build your own mini empires. This list is endless...
To anyone logging into a beta account friendless, corpless and clueless about the bigger picture it wouldnt appeal. To those who have an insight into what's in store (Ok, its not what you know its who) the medium to long term potential of the game is simply beyond comprehension. As with DaoC it will probably take 3-6 months from release before it comes into its own (char development being what it is with all mmog's), but when it does...wow.
Eve won't dominate the MMOG market because it's learning curve is huge (FFS Ive been playing 10 weeks and I still learn new things every day). Judging by the apparant average age of the current players it also appeals to the older gamers out there (Everyone who ever played and enjoyed Elite way back has had their every prayer answered and all their Xmases arriving at once when its launched).
DaoC was always a "filler-in" for me, and while I enjoyed my time there and made a lot of great friends it never blew me away the way Eve has, even in a beta state with only 20% content.
/Regards
PS I hate fucking agreeing with Karam
PPS EVE is far less demanding on your CPU than DaoC. I can run 2 accounts on my 1.4gig GefX2 simultaneously with minimal fps loss.

daoc is a BAD game, its got nooo lastability, its easy, theres no depth, i got bored of it the second i hit 50. well actually the second i hit 40, but wanted to see if it would change atall at 50
u obviously havnt had any previous experience in rpgs, UO and EQ for example, classics, better games. the only game i can think of that could possibly rival UO is eve.
daoc baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad
