How do you get weather info, TV listings and various other misc info displayed on your desktop?

you can chuck your icons anywhere, i'd recommend creating a specific folder in My Documents so you can keep track of them.

Changing the icons are easy, most can be changed by right clicking a folder/shortcut etc and choosing Properties > Customize and choosing the Folder Icons option, although again i'd recommend downloading a program to do that for you

MicroAngelo
IconPackager
E-Icons
GUI Replacer

are a few that come highly rated

New one for work. Anyone know an easy way to make XP stop forcing the desktop icon font colour to white when you have any kind of background picture?

annoyances.org is your friend!

You can also try MicroAngelo (v5.5 or later), which allows you to change the text color, configure custom icons, and change other aspects of Windows.
I'm sure there's an easier way though, there must be.

Yep, the simplest way is to turn off all the funky shadows behind the text in display properties.

There are some tweaking apps which will let you change the text colour but keep the shadowing, TweakUI included, I think.

Why are icons which are the size of Texas, in such demand? I just don't get it. :(
