DAM JAR JAR BINKS. He was the single worst problem in that film. Also there making a prequel to Crouching tiger hidden dragon. And SW Ep 2 is meant to be predominitly a *love* story

also crap joke time

The magic of Star Wars has forever been ruined by George Lucas and Rick Macallum (his producer). They created Jar Jar, they got rid of story telling in favour of eye candy and they have made a crap film.

Ep 2 HAS to be better, on the grounds that Ep1 was so bad if nothing else. Episode V was the best of the original 3, partly because Lucas couldn't exert his influence as much over director Irvin Kersher. Lucas hasnt directed in over 20 years it was said, when Ep 1 was made.

Now we all know why.

Yer Ep 1 is shit, and I completely lost all interest in Ep 2 after seeing LotR, cos if anything (other than the fact it's a fucking great film), it just made Ep 1 and Lucas look even shitter.

Which was quite a task considering the enormous fuck up on the face of cinema that was Ep 1.

Jar Jar Binks is horrible but the I believe he did about as much as possible with the story telling bearing in mind he can't stray too far from the path he made in the old star wars.

No excuse for Ep 1's shitness. It wasn't the backstory to eps 4-6 that's the problem, it's the way he does it. Lots of crap about Taxation and trade routes?

George knows how to thrill the kiddies....

:)

Well, I liked Episode I.

One thing you are forgetting is you were a little kid when you watched Episodes IV-VI, back then a Jar-Jar character would have appealled differently to you.

Star Wars is now an adult concern, the only viable complaint you can have for Uncle George is not changing to meet that attitude, his consideration was recruiting a whole new generation of SW fans.

No-one complained about the teddy bears in VI, they are much worse.

Then explain why kids rate Ep 1 as shit as well? :)

And how SW 4-6 still appeal to adults...

I'm an adult (kinda) who didn't get blown away when I first saw Star Wars. To this day I rate all the SW films as 'okay'. I might watch them with me mates because they like it, but I'd rather do something else.

imo, SW was an 'important' film because it changed they way movies were made. It spawned a new generation of effects-heavy blockbusters. Story and acting was below paw, be honest. Good for the kids, though.

SW still appeals to the adults who were kids when they first saw it. And nobody else, it seems.

Dunno where I'm going with this. Carry on.

meesa no liking you no more.

Well, that and the fact that the plot was just pathetic and the acting wasn't very good either. Midichlorian conception? What a load of BALLS! This is a badly made take of the Virgin Birth - I'm surprised the newspapers didn't scream about how offended the church was when it was released.

Ep IV had that gut-wrenching end scene with the medal ceremony and everyone smiling a la Partridge Familty and Brady Bunch and the tough Rebel warriors hugging each other.

Ep V compromised the excellent Hoth battle with the rest of a film being a love story.

Ep VI had the teddies, they make me cringe even today, I cannot believe anyone considers this one was any less serious than Ep I.

Times were different back then, Ep IV was a ground-breaking film, it is that lasting impression that has tinted those films and makes them fondly remembered despite their flaws.

I'm not saying Ep I is a bit sad, but it followed the tradition of IV-VI, and is why I respect Georgie-boy for at least being consistant and not turning SW into some Matrix/Blade ass-kicking clone.

All the films have their excellent moments and their bum-grippers, the problem is we have changed and we see the new film differently.

BTW I watch these films again and again, I and IV-VI, my little son loves them and we re-enact light sabre scenes regularly in the house :)

Empire was the best. The love story (ish) bit was cool. Not slushy. When Han is about to be iced Leia says "I love you." and Han replies "I know." When I saw that as a kid I thought he was the coolest guy ever :)

That's the problem with Episode 1. No Han Solo. He made the original films fun. Harrison Ford played that part perfectly. No po-faced meandering about disturbances in the force for him :)

indeed. nail on the head there for me Wij mate. HF as Han was/is imo the coolest person around [with the possible exception of William Dafoe in platoon]

Gave him a high toggle dirty duvet as well.:)
