Jaysus. Look at the dust that gets thrown up by the shockwaves around the base of the gun. Powerful stuff.

What was that gun called, Embbeh?

I bet those guys had crap hearing after using that for a while.

I believe that some of the really big battleships have huge guns. They have to clear the decks before using as the shockwave would kill the crew if it hit them.

I have some footage of the "Upshot Knothole" project with a bloody big gun firing off a nuke shell, I'll get it online when I get home.

I know the Yamato Had very large guns, and her sister ship (can't remember the name). They put hamsters in cages on the decks, then test fired the guns.

All the hamsters disintergrated! :(

The main guns(15+ Inch) on all the Battleships had the same effect when fired....you had better not be on deck ;)

wasnt the Yamato one of the largish ships sunk in Guadalcanal? survived pretty much a complete battering from the Americans and only went under because her crew scuttled it?

or am i getting confused with all the warships now?

I know the Bismarck's main guns were deck clearers, but not that powerful to disintegrate anyone, just knock them off their feet and screw their ears up for life ;)

(edit) dawm, too busy looking up shipwrecks to get this posted in time, and thought Bismarck was spelt bismarch! :p

(2nd edit) Kirishima was the name of the ship i was thinking about in Guadalcanal, it was the battleships large superstructure which was confusing me

The "hopeless" part was talking about the Polish resistance.

No, Yamato was sunk by the americans (I think) Her main guns were 19inch if memorey serves (big buggers)

Yamato was one of the biggest ships in WWII, the only possible contender for the throne was the Missori(sp?) class (american)

/me :twak: Kanonfodda

Guadalcanal was an american battle with Japan dont forget ;) it was the large ship Kirishima I was getting confused with the Yamato (bit hard to with their names) but the Kirishima had the towering superstructure which gave it a certain "largeness" to itself.

gah! dont you DARE get me interested in sunken warships again you sod!

(edit) /me :twak: myself ... am i the only one suffering with the dreaded "webpage times out but it still posts" problem?

As the Germans fought the Russians around Warsaw the Underground in Poland started to rise however the Russian offensive ran out of steam and when Hitler realised this he used his troops etc to crush the resistance and level Warsaw.

Yamato guns were 18.1" although Battleships was no longer the main sea weapon....this role went to the Aircraft Carriers in WWII.

I've seen an aerial picture in a magazine ( bizarre )
showing an american warship firing all its guns simultaneously - the shockwave smooths the water for 200ft around it - it looks awesome.
