DAoC crafting was probably the worst crafting system ever devised

I'll second that.

I'll third it. Abysmal.

As Fael says, it's best that they let players just do disposable stuff, or one-time recipes or self-only stuff... whatever.

this your first mmo? :p

time invested = reward. otherwise there is no incentive for people to play for long.

Yeah Raven, this is my first ever mmo...I am a total noob who has never even turned a pc on, let alone played an mmo.

WoW is the prime example of how crafting can suck. Having to do loads of stupid instance runs for items which are neccesary ingredients for High End weapons/armour is crap imo.

The game is about pvp, it's a pvp game for people who want to pvp. You should get your items from pvp...not fucking about doing raids/dungeons for "Holy Tail of the Gatekeeper's Nan".

What if they had the same stats as the best out there, but looked uber?
And what's the difference between people having the best out there from pvp / pve compared to crafting? Someone will be pimped regardless. Crafting should be an alternative for equipment. But it beats the idea of farming 100000 ice wraiths hoping for a band of ice to drop or what not.

I just dont think crafted items should be better than rewards from pvp...otherwise it makes them lose their value. If they include craftable armour/weapons, they should be 10%-20% lesser stats than the pvp rewards. This would mean people who love crafting can still make themselves some decent armour, however to get the best stuff they will need to PvP.

One argument could be "What about the pve people who just wanna pve?". Well crafted armour could have a Jewell slot or 2. This would allow the crafters to add something which can only be used in PVE. Something like "adds X% to defense and raises HP by X%" This would mean the crafted armour has it's merits for pve.

One other thing is when people are max level. I want to see everyone all out fighting and having fun, not all camped away in an instance farming items so they can enter the pvp world in a full set of r0x0r gear.

Well as we have now all seen the crafting podcast, lets hear what people have to say about this.

Personally I love the two negatives the started with.

No grind, YAY, I have only played WoW twise for about 2 weeks total (1 week each time) and only ever made it up to lev 28
before being so mindnumingly boored with the repetition that I just stopped playing.

Gathering and crafting was much the same to me, having to backtrack and kill crap mobs to grind gathering skills or find the flowers and bolders to harvest not to mention trying to give away 200+ decent crafted items rather than selling them for a pittence was just wrong.

Having been a long time player of EvE I know what the manufacturing and
market sections of the game can be all about and WoW fails utterly.

Im not sure how you will level upp your skill for the crafting abilities without grinding but if they atleast put in a few stalls that sell player crafted stuff then atleast you can move your goods (and NO! auction house is NOT the place for such sales).

No recipes, doubble yay.
Again comming from EvE I have found blueprints to be a bother, T1 BP's have a place in that game but T2, the equivilent of inzanelly uncommon recipies were a bust in there that they finally solved with invention, it did take a loong time however (and no, I am not one of the people griping about not being awarded a T2 BPO, in reality I own 7, 3 of them ships and 4 are very profitable).

Again I am not sure how to advance a skill without grinding and non recipe
crafting becomes more skill dependant but if they say bthey are working towards this then I look forward to it.

I ecspect initially to go for scavenging/Apothecary but expect I will switch to talisman making at a higher level... well I say this like I will only have one char... my main will probably go this way but I expect to try all 6.

I am perplexed about the cultivating skill, I wish there had been more info on it such as how long does the entire cycle take on average, what can you do to speed the process upp, how well must you time the adding of soil, watering and nourishment (I really hope one nourishment type of the orks is to stick a whole goblin corpse into the pot), it looks interesting in any case.
