I'm still running my PC with a V3 3500 (The one with the blue dongle thing). It's great
Not only do I get 3DFX in games, but I get to capture from my camcorder (MPG and JPGs), but I can put my screen out onto a TV. So I can watch my *cough*downloaded*cough* movies on me TV from the comfort of my bed rather than the stool
My fiance has a V3 3000 as does my bro. They're solid.
actually... I wouldn't have a problem paying $1500+ for a viddy card if it were an Integraph/3DLabs Wildcat of some sort. Otherwise, it's outta the question. (I nabbed my Fire GL2000 for $60 instead of the $1300 retail price)
the FireGL2000 completely sucked azz at GLQuake. I cannot stress to you how much it sucked. It sucked more than anything had ever sucked before!
The Wildcat's should be better though. They're designed to throw up textured polygons at a good rate, which is something the older cards choke on. Most high end cards are designed for lit, shaded raw polygons. They can throw 'em up at incredible speeds as long as they're not textured. The older game chipsets were good for textures, but choked when it came to complex geometry and lighting.
The Geforce changed all of that.
(for the record, the Geforce is still unsuitable for high end 3D work as it's image quality pales to the Wildcat or any other high end chipset. The Quadro, however, rectifies that).
