3 people in my office smoke and when asked why don't they stop smoking, none of them said "Because I'm addicted , I need help to quit.". No, what they said was, "Because I like to smoke".Originally posted by Tom
Because they're addicted.

as for being addicted to food, what on earth are you talking about? People don't eat excessivley due to an addiction. A mental problem maybe but not an addiction.

Tom, what the hell has the pancreas inability to produce sufficient insulin got to do with food addiction?Originally posted by Tom
:wall: :wall:
You plainly don't have the first clue what you're talking about. You don't think food is addictive? Where do you think diabetes comes from? The Moon?
Type 2 diabetes is believed to develop when:
the receptors on cells in the body that normally respond to the action of insulin fail to be stimulated by it - this is known as insulin resistance. In response to this more insulin may be produced, and this over-production exhausts the insulin-manufacturing cells in the pancreas;

Yeah right leggy.
I suppose that means the NHS should get commission from every food and drink purchase aswell?

From your own site. Basically, people who are addicted to sugar and excess intake of carbohydrates become so proficient at producing insulin, that the above occurs. If you've worked in a hospital for so long, then you may have noticed that many people with a sweet tooth develop diabetes.
Oh, and I didn't tell you that you didn't have a clue, although maybe you should read what you preach before you try it on me.
Eating sweets or the wrong kind of food does not cause diabetes. However, it may cause obesity and this is associated with people developing Type 2 diabetes.
HEBS in Scotland has been doing "healthy eating" / "do a little fucking exercise" for a good few years. I think it would be a very good idea for the NHS to run a little education and a few leaflets in the rest of the UK. Some people really don't link the crap they eat to the size they are.Originally posted by leggy
I was merely making a point that someone has to take some action and the best organisation would be a government funded one like the NHS.

From the same site...
Which means that fat people are predisposed to diabetes, not all fatties get it. It does not stem from an addiction to food as you originally stated.

Being fat usually does stem from an addiction to food, and therefore diabetes is indirectly caused by addiction to carbs/sugar. That's the last comment I'm going to make.

Dont eat like a fucking idiot then you wont become a gluttonous pig, and wont have to worry about having to break the addiction.

What they failed to add was "Because I like to smoke and likely die younger."

And don't tell me that if they were addicted they couldn't seek help, and as for being addicted to food, what on earth are you talking about? People don't eat excessivley due to an addiction. A mental problem maybe but not an addiction.
