hehe exactly

pity TopBanana was such an arrogant megalomaniac shit that he couldn't face just having a channel on Quakenet like Jolt and other GSPs. He wanted the power, and he got it with his small turd kingdom of HashNET. Loved those quotes in the IRC chat on the NGUK forums - TopBanana says 'HashNET is mine' TWICE - please Cable and Wireless suits don't take hashnet away from me!

seems like he was so stubborn he had to leave rather than adapt to what the management wanted, whatever that was.

good riddance imo, I have nothing against NGUK users and I've played on a lot of NGUK clan servers as well as WP, Jolt, BW and so on since 1998.

however the NGUK branding was cheap and tacky and the techs were self-righteous and self-serving. So many crappy tricks like the 0800 dial, the T2 server names, banning GSP names on forums. Bit worrying that the admins at Jolt seem to be becoming similar in their outlook.

I will be sorry to see the NGUK servers go, but my only real worry is that that bunch of clowns start up another service somewhere else. Perhaps it will be XXXGamesUK, sponsored by the Star and with Tits'n'Arse on every page and every server.

bye now!

Topbanna thought he could do any thing and get away with it, he has been proven wrong :)

I do like that about you Stu- just a little simple :touch: (nudge) is all you ever seem to use in your posts, yet they always manage to kick off huge flames as one person always misses the point..... :cowsleep:

Its no different to someone supporting a football team passionately. Or is that immature too?

I can't deny that NGUK had its fair share of muppets on there servers and the way they promoted themselfs was questionable on occation. But I never really had any issuse with them and what people did not realise (velvet ;)) is the 'suits', who did not really care about gaming, put a huge amount of pressure on the server staff to get as many people on the servers etc as possible - therefore going on the forums - therefore clicking on the ads. Thats what screwed Wireplay.
I can't really comment on the number of muppets on NGUK servers as I never went near them and don't ever intend to. However I have had issues with NGUK and from the forum posts and IRC logs I've read my opinion is that TopBanana was a bit of an idiot regardless of what the suits were up to.

Inidently what you've described was not what screwed Wireplay. We had a completely different problem to NGUK; basically we had too many people playing on servers with no money to upgrade, rather than using any means possible to attract more people to the next big PR cockup.

Anyway, most problems were caused by childish players and a few idiot admins who abused thier admin rights
Well from what I've seen it has always been easier to get admin on NGUK than any other gaming service in the UK, so its to be expected.

It is wrong to attack the people who started this service and worked damn hard. There was only 4 of them and I often found them in IRC very late at night because they were working really late to get stuff done.
I've worked largely 6-7 day weeks for easily 10 hours a day for most of the last 2 years on Wireplay. If people think I do stuff wrong I want them to point it out. I try not to be too arrogant to take it on board though.

For those who don't know what is happening over at NGUK; well not many people do. Its all rather quiet. But what we do know is that the 4 core staff have walked out because they did not like what thier financial backers wanted (forced) them to do. For that i think they deserve a pat on the back for standing up for thier principles, where you agree or not.
You don't even know what those principles were. They may have left because they had to wear a uniform to work for all you're aware. You happy that they're sticking up for that principle?

At this rate online gaming in the UK is headed for a crisis. What with BW nearly going down the pan, Wireplay gone and NGUK in a dire situation.
Looks to me like its getting a whole lot better.

We should not be atacking the people who have worked hard to improve the UK gaming scene.
Um, I take it you didn't read the posts from TopBanana saying he couldn't give a toss about the UK gaming scene and that he just wanted people to play on NGUK?

ps. Nice post Grom.

velvet - that line about admining on nguk is a crock of shit and u know it. Like WP never had any complaints about admins...

You may have a bone to pick with TB, but don't criticise ppl who volunteered their time for the gaming community.

... TopBanana was a bit of an idiot ...

Too kind! That finely developed diplomacy velvet...

These boards aren't censored remember! :D

Admins on NGUK were sometimes nice ppl but were pretty clueless. At least on WP they vetted admins and chose ppl who had a clue, rather than NGUK giving codes out to a whole clan effectively, some of whom couldn't admin a fish pie.

'Grom you're obviously cheating, please leave or I will ban you'

bl33t!

Are you an NGUK admin? :)

I am an admin of T2 on NGUK. I used to play on WP, and I also play on BW.

I'm not particularly partisan in this whole slagfest over services, but I do know that I put time and effort into helping ppl out on the servers and don't need you insinuating that we offer a substandard service.

The majority of admins on NGUK are good guys who want to put something back into the gaming scene, but we aren't infallible, and as you are working on a new service, you shouldn't be alienating ppl who are sustaining communities that try to foster and grow UK gaming (which benefits everyone).

If you re-read my initial post you'll see I was commenting on how easy it is to become an admin on NGUK over other GSPs. Considering it used to take at least 2 months to become a CS admin on Wireplay and how BarrysWorld give admin away like it was a blood relative then I can't see how I'm anything but right.

I'm sure there are good admins at NGUK, but its pretty obvious you'll have a high proportion of bad ones given that its so much easier to get admin. I could've created a new online persona, gone and posted on NGUK for a few weeks then asked for admin. Chances are I'd have got it then could kick and ban people to my heart's content.

As for "alienating ppl who are sustaining communities that try to foster and grow UK gaming". The only reason I'm posting here and am interested in the changes at NGUK is because in arguments I've had with the 4 guys who left they've clearly stated (on a public forum no less) that they neither care or believe in a UK gaming community, only NGUK. My reasons for posting are to point this out to people who share their attitude, have blind faith in what they did was right and post about stuff they have no clue about. Its not about alienating people, as these people are already alienating themselves. You're more than free to choose what you think is good for the UK gaming community or bad for it.
