If the forum were to be moved we would have to have our continued relaxed modding thats why OT is so successful we mod ourselves and are allowed more freedom, will that same freedom be there if its moved onto the front page? Being more in the forefront in my opinion means we'd have to be checked more.

the mods are all part of the community here, the same mods do general as OT.

There is nothing relaxed about OT, it's another silly hangover from when DAOC was still alive and kicking. It's modded just the same as the rest of the forum, by the CoC

Also I'd strongly disagree with meg about poor threads. Have you read OT recently? Most of the threads are centred around events in people's lives, not beeb links etc. Those threads will always exist though, as people tend to want to discuss what's happening in the world.

There are at least 20 active threads in ot a day, it should be on the main page with that level of use.

I voted to keep it as it is, but I'd assume with all the votes for moving it somewhere it's going to move somewhere. With that in mind, if it is to move I would not want it merged with General!!!!

I am the biggest offender with news post but I do it for a very calculated reason, to keep people talking no matter the subject so as to keep people coming back and contributing to the sense of community. They aren't worthless posts if people reply and have their say, a forum is all about discussion and once that stops the forum ceases to have a purpose.

I check General for serious stuff, then over to OT for more off the wall stuff. Moving OT to the front of the forum would make sense as it is (I think) the only off topic section in the entire forum.
I don't read every thread but some posts in both areas have made me think more about my opinions and even modify them; scary but true!

I know a lot more about flavoured vodka than I ever did before.

I agree that concentrating on gaming is a retro step but I would like to see more threads on games coming soon and what peeps think about them or even revisiting old games - more general rather than specialised as there are dedicated forums for games. An example is that I am looking forward to playing Rift, Guild Wars 2 and maybe even the new Star Wars. (not linking as I don't want to de-rail the thread).

The other large chunk of the community came in via Daoc and being an official forum - perhaps we could find some new decent game?

Why is anyone going to use FreddysHouse as an official (or even unofficial) forum for a particular game?

Any developer can setup their own forum for their own game these days, we've moved on since 10 years ago where developers just setup a site to advertise the game and sell more boxes.

It's not impossible to get users for a game coming to the forum if you start a community for it, but it would take effort.

Another idea that comes to mind is pimping our tech forum - there really is an enormous amount of very good advice available on there?

Some of it has been directed to Teczone, but it looks like that has died fairly quickly.

I know there are a few useful bits of tech forum content, but I'm sure there are plenty of forums which do the job even better because they've got an existing tech site which drives users there, an existing userbase because they've been around for years, or they specialise in a particular thing.
