For anyone else thinking of jumping on the HD bandwagon by buying this TV, can I add my praise to Doomy's. Sharp have stopped making these now in prep for their next model, so this should start dropping to below or around the £1k mark.

Hd pictures are stunning, SD pictures vary depending on the source, itv pictures are always appaling, they seem to use lots of compression. WAtching newly recorded stuff like Doctor Who, CSI you feel like you can walk through the screen into the action, the TV scales really well given a good source to start with.

The 37" acually has a better panal than the 42", it has a 4 wave backlight that gives better colours.

it's the 37 i want as 42 would be too big for our living room and too big for the distance to the sofa. i'm just hoping my cash comes through before they sell all of them :drink:

What is your viewing distance? I'm only 2.8meters away and 42" is just about perfect.

Probably about the same, but it's going to be up against a chimney stack and a 42 will dominate the wall too much and ruin the feel of the room :)

No blurring with footy only arsenals performance blurs the tv, tho that is my eyes welling up. You could sit at any angle to the set and see it, 45' at least and more. I took a picture anyway, bad photo but you get the gist.

Notice the new toy nestled next to the 360 :) I think the set is rated at 4 ms refresh.

I like your set up but you should seperate the 360 and the ps3 :p

Im not sure what TV i will go for when i go for my 1080p TV at the moment i can't falt my 32 Bravia i just wish it had 2 HDMI ports but Sky HD still looks good enough on Component. Like i said i can't fault the Sony and i have deffinatly not noticed any signs of it being cheaply built.

It will come down to the price difference when i purchase up this is my 3rd Sony TV all have been upgraded and never broke it will be hard to replace them for another brand ;)

How do people still rate the Sharp TV? Just checked the price of it now and its gone down to £750'ish.

My mum has said she wants a new TV downstairs, i thought the one we had/have is fine but maybe i'll get to have that one.

The one she had an interest in [After i done an initial search] was Samsung LE46M87BDX/XEU because she wanted something around 42-46' within a price range of £1500 or so.

There was some decent prices out there, but after a few issues with our current TV [Where the colours went squiffy] it was decided to save hassle and get 5 years warranty, but many of the sites only offer the 1 year manufacturer warranty or just 3 years

/edit

This Sony Bravia also caught by eye, but again, it didnt come with [Or as far as i can see] the warranty, which was a let down

This one is better than the sharp, if I had waited a few months I would have bought this instead. Toshiba 42X3030DB - Product Information - Digital Direct UK

Gray, if you are looking at Bravias then you want a W or X series one, they are the 1080p ones. The others are a waste of your money in that size range. The W series in 40" and 46" are on stock clearance on most online sites, can be had very cheaply.

Bumpage!

I'm after a TV - I have been renting up until now (too lazy to change)... what's the current great deal around the £600-£800 range please?

What's the difference between a plasma TV and an LCD TV? I mean I know how they work and the plasma is supposed to be better at darker colours or something, but are there any opinions on which is better, which one will be developed more in the future.

Unlike Jupitus I'm having a hard time convincing the Mrs that we "need" either of them, but she's kind of more inclined towards LCD as it seems a bit cheaper and, obviously, I want the plasma stuff because it seems more expensive... :)

generally for "huge" TV's you'll be watching from a decent distance, plasma.
for smaller (up to 40") tv, has to be an LCD, certainly for average living rooms.

Flat screen - TFT I guess 37" or better with a HD connection. Apart from that I've no idea, I guess 1080 lines ?

Budget around a grand, any ideas what to look for and what not to look for ?

I reckon you can get a bigger screen for a grand. Are we talking US or £ ?

My mate told me to stick with plasma for large screens, I don't know why but he's a TV/Audio geek (you should see his set up - only the very best... grrrr.......
