Flat screen - TFT I guess 37" or better with a HD connection. Apart from that I've no idea, I guess 1080 lines ?

Budget around a grand, any ideas what to look for and what not to look for ?

Yep, they sent me to get a sharp xd1e 42" but the 37" is 1080p too. Its all you need, probably get it for around £900. Absolutely fucking jawdropping. Ill post pics of mine later.

Ooo please Doomy. I thought I had decided on the Bravia 40w2000, but the price difference between that and the Sharp is annoying me.

My most important question about this TV. The Bravia does 1080p over the VGA input for 360. Does the Sharp?

No it doesnt, seeing as games wont output in 1080p on the 360 i was happy enough to make use of the the twin HDMI ports via PS3 and MCE. I dont have a PS£ (lol good typo) yet but im setting up MCE atm via my xt1900xtx for 1080 p films. I have 3 films coming in at 56 gigs that i shall use for testing purposes :).

Right spent just under £600 and got a LE32R74BDX (Samsung) :-

Spoke to two people who owned one and they both said its a great TV, reviews were also pretty good too. I still want a 40" 1080 line one, but going to wait a year for the prices to drop some more and when that happens this 32" will go into my bedroom and replace the 19" one i have a the mo :)

It seems to be the opinion of people on avforums that the 360 does do 1080p over VGa with one of the updates MS realeased at some point.

Yeah for films I believe it does. All games are 1080i only though. With the exception of Splinter Cell that is and im unsure of that too, thats just something I read.

Ye it does do 1080p after the winter update thingy, but be careful because some (mostly Sony I'm led to believe) televisions won't allow 1080p to be displayed over component, only HDMI due to DRM restrictions, so you'd be wise in making sure it will play at that res before you go purchasing the HD-DVD addon.

Nothing does 1080p over component as far as I am aware. But the 360 will output 1080p over VGA and the 40w2000 bravia supports that. Looks like I shall be getting that over the sharp.

I would take it back, that white circle really ruins the set!

Yes it does. Why you stuck it in a box for the sake of a few candles and some plant is beyond me though :)

We are STILL decorating, Im going to attempt to get rid of the feminine stuff, thats all the crap dumped on top.

I have hooked up my pc via hdmi since and its amazing. 1080p is kool!

And my cats like to vault off of stuff so box needed.

The 'feminine stuff' stops it looking like a wankers graveyard. Leave it there imo :).

Doomy - whats your TV like when you are watching it on an angle? Say I got one I would have the sofa either side of the telly, would the people sitting in the corner still be able to see the picture? Whats it like when footy is on, is there any blurring?

Why would you want someone watching the back of the television? :(

That made me chuckle.

From the picture he has taken Trem I would say its got a great viewing angles...
Also I think it has very high response times so you don't get any blurring...

No blurring with footy only arsenals performance blurs the tv, tho that is my eyes welling up. You could sit at any angle to the set and see it, 45' at least and more. I took a picture anyway, bad photo but you get the gist.

Notice the new toy nestled next to the 360 :) I think the set is rated at 4 ms refresh.

For anyone else thinking of jumping on the HD bandwagon by buying this TV, can I add my praise to Doomy's. Sharp have stopped making these now in prep for their next model, so this should start dropping to below or around the £1k mark.

Hd pictures are stunning, SD pictures vary depending on the source, itv pictures are always appaling, they seem to use lots of compression. WAtching newly recorded stuff like Doctor Who, CSI you feel like you can walk through the screen into the action, the TV scales really well given a good source to start with.
