Kneejerk (but I suspect accurate as well, just by looking at the presenters) reaction - it's going to be awful. But then, it's made for a different audience, and do americans really get our Top Gear?

I remember immensely looking forward to The Office US, only to then be left wanting to break things after only about 10 minutes of it. :(

I think that the UK peeps will be mostly annoyed by the show, i wouldn't call you UK peeps UK peeps if you didn't ;) But americans do offer a different kind of entertainment. Bigger i guess, for the lack of other terms.

I'm gonna offer a non-biased opinion on it when i get the chance to see it. Most likely if they try to copy the UK completely, crap will ensue, but if they manage to make it more of an american style version(and as such offer more info from the other side of pond, with similar humor), it might work.

Though ofcourse;

The australian version didnt work and australians actually have a sense of humour. This will be shocking... you can already see i nthe pre-air stuff that they have too much 'man love' for each other to pull this off... even Top gear UK goes too far this way some of the time.

On a perhaps positive note, it might get more peoples attention towards TG:UK. More peeps going fan-tastic over it?

Don't know if TG:UK airs in the US.

the main problem with the us/australian shows will be once you've see one v8 car it's gonna be almost the same as the next v8 car :)

I am quite enjoying Grand Designs Australia, but I think that's probably an easier show to transfer annnnd they kept the excellent music.

Top Gear consists of a dick (Clarkson), a man who endlessly tries waaaaay too hard to be funny and usually fails (Hammond) and one of the most interesting and watchable men on the telly (May). When they all come together it becomes something quite special (when it isn't so blatantly scripted ofc) - it's not something you can just create or emulate.

Yep, he needs more shows. Loved his program with Oz Clarke.

Top gear I take it or leave it these days, I am not sure what it is but it's just not as good as it used to be.

Biggest problem for Top Gear US will be Top Gear UK. Its the most torrented UK show in America. Believe it or not, there's an awful lot of Americans who "get it". Take a look at car sites like Jalopnik and it seems like every other story is TG-related.
