I said it on another thread;

£310 (inc Play TV) now buys you sleek piano black box that's a blu-ray player, a twin tuner freeview PVR, media centre, seventh generation console with integrated wireless.

Anyone who doesn't think that's a bargain needs therapy.

the twin tuner freeview would be bargain if it was a freesat tuner.

new ones will have a 120gig hdd as standard as well iirc

So barginus imo ... much better than the price of a hdd for the 360 :)

Would be good, but sadly I very much doubt it since the Freesat EPG is a closed format and you need the appropriately branded Freesat box. I don't see Sony ever catering for a UK specific market, would be a total loss maker considering Sky have got it stiched up pretty good on the satellite front.

Will the slim version have all the features of the big one? I mean will it work perfect as a blueray/mediacenter-streaming player etc aswell?

I've read you can't run Linux on the slim one.

When you say it has a twin tuner freeview PVR, does this mean it act like a SKY+ box, to be able to record of one feed whilst watching another?

I have resisted the PS3 up till now, but i am very tempted with this one, i'll happily pay £250, which is what Amazon have it up for

And I mean it when I say, the picture quality is superior to my Sky box, my Humax PVR and my Humax Freesat box, I really mean that Play TV is the best standard def freeview box out there (in my opinion). They just released a new software update for it and the already awesome quality has been tweaked again.

Of course, it's not as good as Sky HD, but hopefully Freeview HD might not be that far away.

Edit: and the interface is fast and super slick.

Good link Trem.

I'm a bit gutted that it's taken Sony so god damn long to get their butts into gear, this is how the PS3 should have been 18 months ago.

and:

Sony's signed up a raft of big movie studios such as 20th Century Fox and Paramount to get a PSN movie rental and download service up and running.

Sounds fantastic.

Hell no, the 360 sounds like a food blender, the PS3 is whisper quiet unless it gets too hot then it gets loud. My sister's PS3 was in a glass cabinet with feck all ventilation which caused it to be noisy. As long as it's got ventiliation it's near silent.

IIIIInnteresting. I'll probably end up getting a new fatty for my flat eventually as I expect it'll be dirt cheap. I'm still grumpy about backwards compatibility, I don't want to have to buy and find room for a PS2 too. Especially as it's about 3 games I'm interest in on it.

They vary. Mine's quite noisy.

Mine is silent (very quiet at least :)) the sky hd box makes more noise when the fans spin. Apparently the new one has a nosier / cheaper drive but the rest of it is better. Perfect for me as i use it for streaming media more than anything else.

I'll be interested to hear how the slim one behaves, and also how straight forward it is to upgrade the hard drive.

My cousin had problems with a noisy one, mine has never got hot as the fan speed has never increased, his was louder than a 360. We eventually got Sony to swap it out for a new one that is nice a quiet.

I'll keep my full fat version, SD and MemoryStick readers and all thanks. The PS3 must be the only console ever built who's hardware spec has gotten progressively worse since launch. The slim one doesn't look as nice either.

As for the price thing. US products don't include sales tax, EU ones do (and usually importers factor the worst VAT rate and calculate back from that, so blame Ireland's not-wrecking-local-retail-at-all 21.5%), but even if you account for that; a "fair" Euro price should be approx. €255.

Since before launch tbh. PlayTV may indeed rock now but at the start of PS3 it was to be integrated.
