Finster has to get credit for this idea but the more i think about it the more i want it 
Basically you join the alb pk area (somewhere in the northen bit, near the grovewoods) with the mid pk area (somewhere in the southern bit). Then add a milegate about half way inbetween.
This would firstly stop everyone who leaves apk//mpk running straight to amg//mmg because there is actualy 2 places you can go to.
It would also provide a circular route around emain so if ur in the mpk area and someone says a fight is at amg you can get to it two different ways.
Finally it should stop the blasted milegate fights because all you need to do is send half ur army around emain and attack the opponents from the other side. Or just say ok this mg is camped lets go through the other one.
There might be a slight problem when someone takes a relic as its a lot harder to block 2 milegates off. Solution, make the new milegate doors become locked and invulnerable whenever a relic is neutral.
Which side would the steps go? I think no steps at all would be best, and that also means stops ppl with relic not using the dorrs and just jumping over.
Another idea i just had while thinking about steps. Consider amg in emain. Now remove the steps on the north side of amg from hibs side and put them on albs side. Now both sides can get on wall, and the room in the middle of amg would become a FANTASTIC little fighting area (as ppl battle it out to own the top of the wall), much like the doors just below it.
Can you imagine loads of ae nuking on the doors below stopping ppl coming through, and also loads on top stoping the other side acquiring your side of the milegate.
