Guys,

I have held off upgrading to VB4 due to numerous reasons but the guys behind VB3, Kier and Mike, have released a new version of forum software which has got me excited... XenForo Community

Take a look at the alpha... (The beta should be released tomorrow). Let me know what you think, be constructive and honest. It will be a while before I migrate the forums across to another solution but I am so excited about this software.

Comments?

Update

I am getting more itchy with regard to my migration to XenForo so please take a look:

Maybe you can't see it without being signed in, but I don't see a "first unread post" feature?

If you click the date you go to the first unread post, if you click the title you go to the first unread post since "the predefined" cutoff.

Is there an inbuilt mobile friendly version? If so, I'm all for it.

I quite like it.

The smilies look ok apart from the :) one which is a bit scary...

One odd thing I noticed - it only shows you the number of pages in a single thread at a time and you have to scroll up/down to see each in turn?

It shows the number of pages in a thread when you hover the mouse over the thread title.

I would assume you could switch it so it is always displayed. Perhaps they hide the number of pages for neatness sake...

I would prefer to see the number of pages always displayed...

I agree.

I think the forum is really great. I love the design, also think the little speech bubbles next to the threads gives it a modern look.

I like the RSS bit next to the threads too! I have never used RSS. The idea is cool, but I've never felt I had the need to use it. However if i was encorporated onto the forum, I would be far more inclined to give it a go.

The other thing I love is how it displays the Thread starters avatar.

I am currently importing FH into Xenforo as a test. There is still a long way to go before I can migrate across but at least we can have a play using our own data etc.

I like the feature list / look. I'm a minimalist so I like the way the clutter is hidden until you mouse over something. Tooltips are nice too.

I've been keeping an eye on this for some sites I run. I have the alpha installed on my home server and I will be looking at the beta this weekend now I have a license. It actually looks really good and it isn't nearly as bloated as VB4. There appear to be a few DB optimization issues in the alpha, but then you would expect that to be fair.

But why are you posting about a broken daoc theme for a forum that is not even up and running yet??

Guys,

Anyone want to have a play with the test forums running Xenforo? Sheepcow has been working on the styles and could do with some feedback if possible....

Please PM me for the HTTP Auth details.

Ooo yeah please. Avforums are switching as well, and they have a test theme running so people can get used to the slightly altered layout.

It looks a tad to minimalistic to me. to much is hidden away in various submenues...
