Darren, you're a fucking pike.

AMD = cheap market/bootsale crap. Money's not an issue for me (and unlikely ever to be an issue) hence I'll pay more for the higher quality product.

AMD reminds me of the new Skoda. A totally redesigned car now that VW own them, some even have electric windows...but the bottom line is...it's still a fucking skoda. I'll stick with an original VW instead of the pale shadow

Thanks

So apart from the fact that it doesn't have as well eastablished a brand name what's the problem ? It's not like you're gonna pull any birds by putting an Intel Inside sticker on your box or impress your m8s down the pub with it :D

According to the logic on this board, there is no point in buying a BMW 325i when a Vectra V6 is cheaper and faster. Which any fool can see is utter pish.

I've never had a problem with Intel. My K5 and K6 were utter shit. I shall stick with Intel.

It's a CPU. Very different thing from a car. If it's fast, reliable and cheap who cares who makes it ? :/

Bodhi, the K5 and K6 _were_ shit m8 [I speak from bitter experience]. The tbird and duron are not. Things have progressed you see :)

Fyi, the _only_, repeat _only_ good processor Intel have _ever_, repeat _ever_ produced was the Pentium PRO.

/me gets fireproof coat :)

If you rely on your car to get you laid, you need to stop worrying about CPUs and the such like ;)

LOL, so so true John, SO true. Just ignore them, they are deluded cheap pikes that secretly visit car boot sales etc

The analogy still stands. "A car is a car, fast, cheap, reliable..." You'd still fucking pick the BMW over Vectra V6 anyday

The P4 is a fucking BLINDING chip...just a little ahead of itself that's all. Rather like the GF3 in some ways, amazing technology...but nothing utilises it ***yet***

I'd pick the beemer sure but I'd also pick the Athlon so the analogy doesn't stand. Different products entirely.

It's integer processing is weak and it needs more cache. No point in getting the first iteration of P4 at all when it will be made obselete by Northwood and the much cheaper Athlon outperforms it.

Perplex,

The analogy is pure, utter, wank. For it to be valid, you would have to use the same criteria for choosing both products. If pure speed were an issue with cars, you'd both buy a Subaru Impreza for similar money. Speed is not the only issue however for choosing cars. Looks, interior quality, ride & handling etc all come into the equation. Vectras fall down extremely badly in all these areas.

With a cpu, if these are your criteria then you are in need of a real life. What do you do, stare at your open case all day safe in the knowledge you have an intel inside? Or do you just want the fastest cheapest processor available?

Even if the analogy were true, however, what you are saying is that no matter how shite & overpriced a car BMW produce, you will still buy it cos it has that badge on the front. Which is rather sad.

I wouldn't buy a BWM 5 series because they are crap - they're too heavy, handle like shit, are overpriced underspec.'d piles of p00 and are driven by people with massive inferiority complexes and very small, almost concave, willies.

If anything this is a better analogy...

P4 = Bentley
AMD = Porsche

The Porsche is cheaper and quicker, but no less reliable or difficult to drive than the Bentley...Who in their right mind would choose the Bentley?

^^

I like that one a _lot_ better :)

I wonder why ppl are so high strung about what processor they have. I bet Freud would say it's a dick thing :)
Can't it just be accepted that AMD's are fast and cheap, Intel's are fast and less cheap.

Fyi, I just checked [quickly] and I found that an intel P3 1Ghz is ~100 squid more expensive than an AMD tbird 1Ghz. Actually the AMD comes with 4 times as much L1 cache as the P3 so I expect it will run like Wij to the loo after a curry :)

Intel vs AMD is like Merc vs Beamer.

You get some people who just fall in love with one brand, no matter what it does.

Me? I like AMD and I prefer a Mercedes anyday to a lump of steaming-well-engineered-nazi-not-so-crap-automobile, but I'm sure there are Beamer-Intel lovers out there too.

I mean come on - everyones gotta love the CL 500!

Seeing as I am a pauper according exor and crew, and I am admittedly working class thru and thru, how come I own Intel then? :)

By the way TUG, Celerons don't count as Intel based systems. They are the pike chip so that skivs who would usuaully get AMD can get a taste of Intel.
