The Samsung N210 isn't bad, nice mouse, keyboard and screen. It seems to manage around 7 hours battery life too with wifi on. I bought my partner one recently, its a nice little machine. It was around £300 with a ram upgrade and a case I think.

Win7 starter is evil. Go Linux.

Might be worth waiting for some major manufacturers to bring out Linux (Ubuntu or ChromeOS) netbboks based on ARM rather than Atom which some are looking to do before Xmas. Should be cheap and consume less power.

Android is quite fast on a netbook too, not my kind of thing, but something to consider.

I like my Lenovo S12. It's a little bigger than yer average netbook and a little smaller than your average notepad. Does HD, nippy, light, yadda yadda yadda.

Mine's got a fucked screen tho. Mainly because I trod on it. :(

Sure, they aren't super fast, but they aren't meant to be. You might want to order a USB dvd drive too, just to make life a bit easier, but they are only £30ish, if that.

Read a review about the samsung one and apparently it struggled playing 720p. My ION-chipsetted one plays 1080p and all the youtube/iplayer fun once I'd downloaded the right codex (Nvidia CUDA ones).

Was well pissed off beforehand. Double check - you'll find most reviews on the net are ridiculously positive about all things...

This.

I've got a Acer Aspire which we got free as a result of purchasing some printing equipment. It boots Ubuntu Netbook Remix faster than my desktop boots Win 7 (quad core Q6600 with 4GB ram).

What with my NAS at home, my desktop now only tends to get fired up when I want to do some gaming.

I also have an Acer Aspire. It's a great little netbook although all I do on it is check e-mail and do some surfing.

I've got XP on mine and it boots up really quickly...

Ive not actually used it for video playback or anything like that. I still prefer my main PC for things like that.

Used an Asus 1008HA throughout my world-wide travels (9 months) and have since installed Linux on it. Have had no problems with it whatsoever, it's comfortable and easy to use but most importantly light and easy to carry.

Highly recommended by me :)
