neon genesis evangelion: huh?

Ok, so heres what happened, you see, this afternoon I got down to work on my art exam prep work, which is due in tomorrow (I actually did said exam a week ago now, apparently its not a problem )

So, looking for something to watch while I worked I went into my brother's room to steal something from his DvD collection. Always being one not afraid to try new things I centered upon a manga DvD: neon genesis evangelion; Death and Rebirth.

I have to say it really got something in me, very wierd, a bit disturbing, its quite an amazing movie to be honest. So I went back to my brother's room and pilfered the sequel to it; The End of Evangelion.

This too, was quite amazing. But I don't understand one bit of what I just watched. I'll be quite content if someone can just explain to me what happened at the end.

the mysterious men is "angels" and they sendt out those nasty white flying thingys to destroy the place which i dont remember the name to

fate of the world was in the boys hands, he decided if the world was gona "die" or "live"..

the boy was sad/mad/angry after he saw the white things kill the red girl .. ( and Misato getting killed by the army-men thingys )

watch the series, it pwns all... its 26 (or so) episodes, gives abit more feeling than the movie ive heard

It is a bit like that film, 'Akira'. I saw it, thought it was amazing...didn't have a friggin' clue what it was about. I have seen it about 3 times now and I still have no idea what was going on.

the best bit in the series is when you realise Rei is cloned from his mother, then all the wierd sexual tension between those two becomes quite freaky


basically i could sum it up:

1st impact: some massive aliens attack earth and devastate it, humans capture one of them 'adam' and using its 'technology' make their own kind of aliens (the evangelions) to fight back

but REALLY they aint aliens they are humans (just like some other manifestation of the human spirit), its all tied into some kind of religious 'armageddon' type thing father/son/holy ghost etc (thats where the neon _genesis_ bit comes in)

the whole Neon Genesis series is them fighting the 'aliens' or angels and trying to prevent the 3rd impact, ofc some secret dudes know that 3rd impact is really the point where the humans on earth are united with the angels and humanity will 'evolve' and REALLY they aint fighting just trying to get it to the right moment for the 'neon genesis' to occur.

the whole thing gets a bit pretensious towards the end tbh the uber robot battles in the earlier episodes are teh pwn tho

Indeed, Trigun does rock. Starts off funny as hell but then starts to go off into plot and a good story. Starting to get a nice collection of anime/manga now. Sadly, all on VHS... but that's just the way I like 'em.

Akira was excellent, the first manga I watched on Channel 4 when I was 9 or so. Loved it. Bought it a couple of years later when I found a shop that actually sold manga vids - not that many in Cardiff.

Neon Genesis I haven't watched yet but I've heard so much about it that it's not something to ignore... maybe next time although I'm still trying to get hold of the remaining parts of 3x3 eyes.

It was certainly one of the best things I've ever seen, been humming music from it all day, certainly going to watch the series now...... alas, my brother has discovered my thieving ways and has hidden his manga collection. My brother being none too bright, I expect I'll have them on Sunday.

Legend(Secret?) of Namo - Same as above
Shadow Skill (parts 1 +2) - Lovely
Ninja Scroll - Classic
Trigun - Classic
Hellsing - Mean Vampires
Armageddon - Crap
Ghost in the Shell - Classic
Ultimate Teacher - Odd, yet funny
Samurai X (parts 1 and 2) - Very good, even for a romance novel
Dominion Tank Police (not the new series) - Funny stuff

I have more but they're just random parts of series which I can't remember right now. Stuff like 3x3 eyes part 4, A.D Police part 2 etc etc...

Those are my views on the anime and manga I know of... saves me making several smaller posts.
