Mythic thinks GOA's active events are not fair

Matt Firor: Like "Mythic Run Events"? No, it's a long standing policy that we will not do anything that someone can "miss out on". It's just not fair to them. We are looking at possibly doing things that are static like GOA does with merchants and festival grounds, but it's not a top priority. The Halloween stuff is pretty much it for now. Who knows what the Future may bring though.

Thats not an "We think GoA events are unfair" its an events that people can miss out on are unfair.
GoA were just mentioned on the next topic of static events.
If Mythic thinks that people missing out on this is unfair, then they should have introduced a perma-up artifact mobs, what if you miss out on credit?! or heven forbid, miss the spawn of some ML mob or boss and miss credit.
Do everybody a favour and stop quoting people out of context.

I've been on some of the GOA events when I remember they're on and usually end up having a laugh and doing something other than the XP\ML\TOA\RP grind. Long may they continue

This 'Oh my, we can't do *Insert random something here* incase someone misses out' excuse is pathetic.

Perhaps they're afraid that some greedy yank will sue them for giving ppl an unfair advantage and causing them emotional trauma... Screw em all!!!

We all miss out on something due to being LD at credit, dead, off-line, in the wrong group, the wrong zone, blah, blah, blah...

I remember the event run in the Bg's a couple of years ago, when I managed to kill 100+ albs, mids and hibs by lagging into a deep purple mob at htk

Happy days, goa do another one, never seen anyone in proving grounds, possibly make it a couple of month ubre purple all three realms aid to raid the CK? ( Raid Aid (c) )

do bear in mind, goa has 2 english speaking servers with maybe 3000 players to handle..


Mythic has 10+ with 15k odd players

slight difference, given that Goa staggers the events across servers so they can dedicate staff to them, Mythic may not have the available staff/want that kind of work.

There used to be event weapons with 30% (or something ) melee resist debuff which people considered "pwnitems" Some guilds even rerolled/respecced to get advantage of them Oo

He basically says this; we won't run unexpected random events, people can miss out on that and that's unfair. HOWEVER, we will try and setup some static things in a similar way as GoA did. Unfortunatly, it's a low priority so it won't happen any time soon.

These static things are the GoA quests, for example. Also, the Hurling fields is another example of some static GoA content.

That was what has been said.

However, there's also the implication that random-events are unfair, because people can miss out on them. The GoA events ARE always on a thursday, usually past 19:30 UK time, just not regulary. And they're not always announced in advance. Mythic didn't explicitly say that the GoA events are unfair because people can miss out on them, the thought probably didn't occur to them yet, but in their eyes it would be, so they won't do it in a similar way. (Except for the static GoA content).

Gifv Instanced RvR with USA imo. Call it an event whatever just make it happen asap.

swords with 20% slash debuff & chests with 50% body resist buff if i remember correct. It was extremely unfair imo, I know aloooot ppl participated on that event with like 2-3 items for each realm

Hmm ye true, i remember those items now. Anyone using them in a template atm? Seem to recall there was something not good with them despite those uber procs, sucky utility maybe?

yeah some of those items were quite cool but honestly, when you compare them to some lvl 10 artefacts and the stats they have on them... well they're not actually that great... ahead of their time maybe?

In any case the QQing generated by those items made us decide never to put an item that could give people an "unfair advantage" in anything but a static event. And even then it's not guranteed as we'd have to write a quest for all the realms (so no one gets left out in getting the uber sword of d00m). It's much easier and keeps the majority of people happy if we just go "no uber loot".

Finally, our quests (and events) are just for people to have a change of scenery from their usual gaming experience. We like to make people think and try and work things out, not just repeat parrot fashion what they've read on a website... This is a mmorpg after all

I'd be happy if you brought them back. I have a better chance, I reckon, of winning a decent item on a GOA event than of getting most of the popular artis in this game and I suspect this is true for a lot of players. But that would not be my main motivation in participating in an event anyway.

And I applaud you for it. Due to fate, I've only been on one GOA run event so far, but it was incredible fun. Probably the best night I've had playing DAoC in nearly two years. Its a shame they can't happen more often, though I do appreciate why.

close but wrong. xDDDDDDDDDDDD

I have one of the Armor Pieces. The 50% body resist who shows up on the display is just to overwrite the buff. Actually its only 2% or 3% higher then the buff. (cba to log in to check).But until Toa it was the best Hauberk in Hibernia stat wise. And the only one.

The Weapons were overpowered yes but they got nerfed right after the Event.
