Q: Speaking of autotraining…

A: Update – at one point we were seriously discussing the removal of the autotrain system. For a lot of reasons, we have decided to leave autotrain in the game for the foreseeable future. Just FYI.

Autotraining has no beneficial effect on gameplay.

It should have been turned off long ago.

I don't see what the fuss is about tbh, only gives like 1-2 more points in a line...

Tho I'm puzzled about how they decide on which classes autotrained in the first place, 2/3 alb classes auto, hardly any hib and mid classes, I guess this can be called an imbalance I guess, but only a very small one.

Think main thing is, do you want to sod about making life hard for yourself lvling a charactor for about 1% more parry, for an example.

Maybe, just maybe, the skills of Albions is so widespread...

Autotraining was intended to save those people with classes with 'essential' skill lines from gimping themselves by not speccing it.

Apparently 12 points in your weapon line will stop you being a gimp at lvl 48.

And in alb...

Armsmen
Merc
Paladin
Reaver
Minstrel
Scout
Infiltrator

And probably some others all autotrain.

Not sure of the exact list in hibgard - but it's basically anything other than a caster or priest.

they dont. and warrior autotrain is gimped, you cant spec any weapon to be able to use the autotrained points at 50.

AFAIK you can only really use autotraining to get a Warrior to a little bit more Parry in final spec - i.e. instead of 50/50/28 you can get to 50/50/31. W00t. Hardly worth it.

So this means mid and hib classes are all viable with different specs while alb classes are mostly gimped when specced wrongly :p

Paladins auto-train two lines(Chants and Slash) and I think Reavers auto-train Flex and Soulrending.
This gives at extra 154 points at lv48. For a Paladin, it's the difference between:
50 Shield, 46 Chants, 34 Slash, or
50 Shield, 46 Chants, 39 Slash

Paladins have many specs, but for someone speccing like above, auto-training would give the Backslash style which looks good and hurts too :p

But if they do, they're gimped for all of their levelling and, in the case of the paladin in particular, gimp the groups they join who undoubtedly want end regeneration and aggro management but don't get it because the paladin can't chant.

Just means that the only way people can do it is if they power level. This is just another incentive to power level your chars. Though, its not like people need that much an incentive ... that power leveling is faster is all the incentive people need.

One way to "fix" the autotraining problem would be to give people the additional auto training points at some 50+ exp level. Maybe when a char dings 50.1, they would get any auto training points that they missed out on. This would mean that missing autotraining points wouldn't perma effect a char. Things like doing ML's and various pve raids would probably be enough. When you ding 50.1, the game would calculate how many points you have spent and set you spec points to the amount you would have remaining if you auto trained.

In the above example, the paladin would be end up with 36 in slash when they ding 50 without autotraining and then will get the spec points to train slash to 39 when they ding 50.1.

You could also make it so that respec stones could be used to do it. Like you burn a respec stone and you don't get a respec it just gives you your auto training points or maybe when a person dings ML 10 they get the points.

True, but I never saw power levelling as a benefit. Sure it gets you to 50 fast, but what about learning to play the class on the way? When you meet paladins who don't know what Guard is or how to twist, healers who don't know the difference between a big heal or a small heal in aggro terms or what NOT to do in order to avoid having every mob beat crap out of them immediately, reavers who don't know which styles are mezz-breakingly aoe, etc etc.....then it gets a bit wearying.

I won't ever PL a character of mine, nor will I PL someone else, but if others want to do it, that's up to them. It's a free realm. I just wish some people would stop thinking that just because they have one 50 character that they are instantly uber and godlike at picking up the class skills on any others.

True, auto'ing isn't practical for some classes. But it's less confusing than having a cabalist who can't nearsight, disease, snare... and is wearing plate armour! :(

For people PL'ing their toons, auto'ing is worth considering else you may have problems while xp'ing.

I wasn't saying it was a benefit. I think the game would be better if the optimal way to level wasn't so mindless. I was pointing out that the auto training system encourages people to power level. If you want a paladin who has those extra points in slash, you pretty much have to power level.

Well a lot of the alb classes that auto-train are the ones that have to double spec to get the same utility as the other realms get.

So overall it's still imbalanced against alb.

u think wrong, Reaver Auto Flex and Slash , and ofc, no sane reaver would ever use slash over flex anyway

I think the meeting probably came to that conclusion then someone went:

Hrm autotraining is in _that_ bit of code... you know the fecking evil stuff we inherited from the MUD we based it on that'd take three years just to track down? :)
