You're a fucking geek having your online nick as your profile :/

Anyway, do you want a round of applause for getting an unlocked phone and putting an Orange simcard in it?

fraid not :( we use orange for our phones at work... they have started replacing the old 6210 with the 6310i and have been for a month. Admitedly I havent seen em in the orange shop BUT we are definitley gettin them direct from orange here at work....

I cant imagine we are getting any preferential treatment either as when we changed to orange 6 months ago everyone got a 5110 housebrick to use....

a little fact for you, orange retail and orange network may operate under the same branding but they aren't the same companies... orange.co.uk are again seperate...

orange.co.uk will tell u when they have stock, nothing more...

oh, and it isn't simfree, it's orange and simlocked, the reason I had my name as the profile was to show it was my handset for the purpose of the photo

when the shot was taken it was a sonyericsson prototype for a 3G Concept handset, but it recieved such massive response it's going to be the new flagship phone, out simfree before christmas and on the major networks by march

aside from the sweet screen the unit takes magicgate memorysticks for mp3/wma/video/phone backups/installing applications etc etc

oh, and it should contain the usual data package of bluetooth, gprs, high speed circuit switched data and tribandage...

oh, and to those getting a 6310i, wait up til early next year, nokia have three handsets in the pipeline which do triband plus CDMA :D very useful if you ever travel

yeah,

while most of the developed world uses GSM900/GSM1800/GSM1900 bts' large portions of the US use an analogue service aka CDMA still in many places...

Apart from the massive cost in upgrading their networks the logistics are a nightmare, so as a first step Nokia have produced the 6340i which will do all four bearers...

Ta muchly, as I h8 yanks, so probs won't be needing that :)

I've got a work supplied 6210, nice phone, slim so it fits into pockets easily. We also get full car kits so thats handy too.
I have no real need for bluetooth, IR link works fine for me, can synch up, connect to net on lappy etc. I think we are swapping soon but because of the car kits we will probs stay with Nokia.

I also have my name and company logo on the display (not Yuck), as we all have the same phone, so its a quick way of checking we have picked up the right one. We've all got different ring tones too, otherwise it would be funny as we all reach for our phones :)

I fail to see why you had to make basically the same post twice in a row. Was your tech-geek ego deflating a bit too much? Bym not putting out? Have some strange frustrations to take out on people do we?

Anyway, I've just had a mosey about the main high-street retailers' websites. Carphone and TheLink say the 6310i is Cellnet only, phones4u can do it for you on Vodafone (if you're sad enough to want to go onto Vodafone). Which suggests to me the 6310i isnt availble to the general public on Orange yet, unless you're a business user or a tech-nurd and get it direct from Orange.

Before I start, being 'into phones' is rubbish, yes really.

I was on Orange, now Vodafone. My phone now repeatedly tells me '112 only"£"!"!£'. Vodafone are rubbish because of this, unless it's not Vodafone's fault, not that I care.

Being "into phones" is rubbish, whereas being temporarily "into phones" when you're looking for a new phone is ok. As long as it doesn't turn into being "into phones" full time. Or something.

I agree, I find a phone that offers the following to fufill my needs: 1) Offers the ability to hold a telephone based conversation; 2) Is mobile. For this reason my phone; is smashed to bits, has a blue front and an orange back, is very old, and has no extra features.

The screen on mine has had a massive crack right the way across it since about a month after I bought the phone. All I have to do is get another cover for it, but I just can't be arsed. :/

The business point is one that I hadnt really thought of and in my case is potentially true... tho the cost of our contract would really prohibit us from getting anything before anyone else... it really is that cheap and nasty.
