I havnt a clue what a phoneme word is. I've tried using web definitions but i dont get it.

Can anybody explain?

It´s differences in pronounciations of letters or lettercombinations. In these examples, coat and coil are two different phonemes for the letter "o". Or in tray/grain, the "r" is pronounced differently.
