well their loss, TBH I wouldn't be surprised if HL2 sucked ass compared to the first and anyway valve will lose money from the delay, I'm not buying an x box that I can assure you I don't know about you guys but everyone I know hates microsoft and won't buy something thats unlikely to work, but then I do know people who will buy one as they're stupid and rich enough to have what they want, so I simply play it on their and don't bother buying it for the PC when its released so :upyours: to microsoft and valve.

Seems a very bad idea to me. Seeing as Xbox is one lost exclusive away from being dead in the water.

Definitetly NOT buying an X-box. (Even if they release Counterstrike 2 on it as an exclusive).

Apparently this isn't true. I read on a different site that Half-Life 2 will not be released for the X-Box first. Can't find the link now.

Apparently this news sprung up on an Australian website which claimed Half-Life 2 will be released in October, yet the X-Box isn't released until November.

It's a lie.

Personally I can see an increasing number of games being initially released on these high powered consoles. X-box in particular (correct me if im wrong) because it has a structure akin to a pc. Why? Well, developers only haveto dev for one set of hardware, they can create a game, test it to hell on this one set of hardware and get it out the door...where it sells like hotcakes and gives them enough money to continue the devtime required to get it on a PC and its million and one different pieces. So, instead of disasters like Anarchy Online, the publishers will be able to push the game for an earlier release because its a lot easier to test for one fixed platform rather than a billion mismatched pc's. It's a simple equation of profit over time and with the release of these new "super" consoles the final figure is a much nicer number for the developers. ching ching. The PC market, sad as it is to say, is digging its own grave and it will continue to get deeper the more and more vastly different products are released.

What we need is some big company (read Microsoft) to developer a "Microsoft Standard", or something, and any new piece of Hardware or Software that is released must comply to work well with everything else that complys to the "Microsoft Standard" otherwise it won't be labelled with a big sticker saying "Comply's with the Microsoft Standard" and will therefore be deemed incompatable. This will all mean that if everyone makes sure everything they buy has this sticker on, there will be far less bugs and things will work a lot better.

Now, how do i go about selling this idea to Bill Gates then?

I doubt he'll buy it. You've just described DirectX.

Dan, in some ways MS appear to be trying to do this now anyway. The big problem that causes all this, as a rule, is individual hardware items.
The game is programmed for DirectX or whatever (not an expert on programming games... so..) and they test it. It can work perfectly on one system but not on another, depending on whether your hardware drivers are compat well enough with an up to date DX.

In Win XP - in what is usually panned as control freakery, MS are aparently trying to clamp down on crap drivers that will fuck the system.

Not that I'm worried, new PC (albeit upstairs where it aint on the net) works rather nicely ;)
