Mousing surfaces

Fed up of using blank paper as a mousemat, advice on what to buy? Money's not a problem (within reason) and I'm not exactly a hardcore gamer. I've got an M$ Explorer, one of those optical thingys.

Cheers

Ratpadz

you can buy from Overclocking Store for £15, i have one and its AMAZING.

There is another mousemat called Everglide, which is rated along side this mousemat, altho i dont have any sites on it

Aye, I've been using the same Everglide for 2 years now, still does the job. Unlike those shitty 3M Precision Mousing surfaces - those buggers would be lucky to last 3 months.

Is a mousemat really that important when using an optical mouse? I use a Simpsons mousemat that my sister gave me(amongst other things) for chrimbo one year... It has a plasticky surface, that seems to work fine, using my IntellimouseExplorer. Allthough i do find i have to have a long-sleeved top to lessen "soft skin"...

Id say mousemat matters, just as much as a good mouse..

I recall someone saying

"Whats the point in buying a "Gaming" Computer system worth £800, and only use a crap Mouse/Mousemat?"

I'd go with a Ratpad as well, and consider an Everglide Mouse Bungee (if they still sell them). I got one because it seemed like a good idea, and its been amazingly handy. It holds the mouse cord out of the way. No more mouse cord sticking on the edge of the desk.:)

tbh as long as its got a soft enough surface, works good with mice and doesnt degrade rapidly from use then anything should work. I'm using a nice Holiday Inn mousemat that i got free in dubai :p

When you say "free" do you mean "liberated" ?

Yes, but what is a "good" mousemat? I've used this Simpsons one for the past year, and i put alot more mouse-miles on it than the average user, yet the edges aren't even damaged? What does some £15 "ratpad" or whatever have that makes it better than my current mat?

I agree that you can't overlook the little details, however i don't believe in buying/doing something because it's meant to be good, or in this case, because it's labled as a "gamers" mat, and has an expensive pricetag slapped on...

The Ratpad doubles as a chopping board, is wipe-down clean, and you can store rizlas under it. You need more?

hmm I don't agree. the ratpad is the best mousing surface I've ever had topping the softer mats and even the hard thin mats with ease.

a problem I do admit is that it seems to make the "feet" of my optical wear slightly faster than I imagine a 'regular' mat would. could also be that I'm just holding my mouse wrong tbh ;) the back pads are nearly worn off and the front pads are noticeably worn down :/

nah, in the living room, thats where my PC at this moment is, they are building my new room and a kitchen...

The dust has finally gone now, coz the rooms are in their final stages... so one more rinse in the water for my Ratpad and it should be ok

it's a very refined kind of mousetrap. think flypaper > mousepaper > mousepad. put it in your kitchen. mice stick to it. put mice+pad in microwave. done.
