Most beautiful cinematic moment

Star Wars: Luke Skywalker standing alone on Tattooine watching the two suns rise, as the orchestral music's volume soars. Always seems to bring a tear to my eye and not sure why!

One of many great bits of cinematography in the first Star Wars film, from the days before George Lucas became a jizzwizard.

Shawshank Redemption: Cheesey 'cos it's always in the adverts, but him standing up in the rain with his arms in the air after crawlking through the sewage. Most elating.

I went to watch (well listen mostly) to the London Festival Orchestra somewhere in Essex a few weeks ago.

They played music from LOTR.

Its a fantastic piece of music!! I thinks its won a few awards already.

The road to perdition where Tom hanks opens up with the tommy gun and all the men around Paul Newman die and all he does is stand there not looking, all with the music in the background and no sound of gunfire.

The terminator learning to sacrifice himself to save mankind and Sarah Connor explaining that if a machine can learn the value of human life maybe we can.

The scene in the replacement killers when Chow yun Fat explains to her why he couldn't finish the job. And later on when they go all out to save the kid.

In the two towers the whole of the battle for helms deep.

Darth vader telling Luke that he is his father, and the music striking up, goosebump central.

Oh and watership down *bright eyes* I challenge anyone to watch that film and not feel a tear when the music starts.

Thus, this moment tops my list of hair-raising lump-in-throat inducing celluloid experiences. The beautiful cinematography, the heart-rending music, and one of the finest on-screen performances of any film, by Al Pacino. Not forgetting of course the direction of Coppola.

geek alert. Star Wars. escaping in the millennium falcon.. luke stops to see obi-wan fighting with darth vader.. obi-wan sees luke, stands straight and lets darth vader cut him down...

"Ben?!................. NO!"

that makes me tingle everytime, the music the "NO!" and everything... yea im a nerd :{

also.... Saving Private Ryan, when the medic gets shot attacking that radar thingy in the field (? i think) when he's laying there bleeding profusely, and they're all trying to clean up the wound and he's just crying "Mummy.... MUMMYYY"... that bit was fucked up :S

The Sniper part on Full Metal Jacket..

Just seeing them being shot one by one, am like "Ack, don't f-ing run out"

But no they have to be Mr Hero and end up with a big cap in their asses..

And also every part with Pvt.Piles, poor sap.

And Mufasa's death in LionKing :(

Anuther part on saving Pvt.Ryan that i found really shocking..

Was when the german and allied soldier are fighting, and the soldier who can speak german is just wacthing..

The look on the soldiers face when he realises he's lost to the german, just before he stabs him, got me so much, it was like i could feel how scared he would of been at that moment.

the opening scene of 2001:A Space oddysey when the sun moon and earth line up and *that* theme hits its crescendo.

when spock dies in star trek II - the wrath of khan (only decent star trek ever tbh)

the skydiving scene in point break, the music and the scenery get me every time.

I just watched The Pianist, lots of disturbing moments, but the scene where the German officer hands him some bread near the end is particularly moving.

top film. The only time I've shouted something at the screen was right at the end when he is walking around in the guys coat.

forgot about that film :/ I'm sure there's another good moment. :p

Zulu - when they sing 'Men of Harlech'

Darth Maul/Kwi Jon/Obi-Wan fight in The Phantom Menace (rest of the film is utter toss of course, but this bit is great)

First time you see the skyline in Blade Runner & Roy Batty and the doves at the end.

The Mustang flying past the prison camp in Empire of The Sun ('Cadillac of the skies')

Not film but TV, the end scene in Band of Brothers when they're playing baseball and the major is describing what happens to them all after the war - deeply moving.

Fraid mine is actually TV as well (soz) and even more strangely it is the poppy field appearing at the end of Blackadder goes Fourth.

Go figure.

I always loved the bit in Star wars Ep 2 when Windu goes im not alone or something to that effect and all the remaining Jedi decloak at ignite their lightsabres.

Also I loved it in Labyrinth when the baby David and the Girl are walking round that strange staircase bit, where everybody is upside down and back to front.

I always enjoy one of the scene in Legends of the fall when it pans over the rocky mountains. Pretty gash film but I just love the untouched scenery

Mission Impossible 2 where Tom Cruise is going after Dougray Scott in that bunker. Kicks ass to all and sundry and then it goes in slow mo for 2 white doves to fly inn

Gosh, yes. Bright eyes always made me cry, at the end of the film when they're all in the burrow and you can see the ghost bunny prancing freely.

The whole of the green mile, I'll have to agree too.

Donnie darko, at the end when he's in the car on top of the hill watching the destruction then looking at the girl and hearing her voice. Just.....moving.....and the bit right at the end when she's asked if she knew him...*pause*..."no"

Damn :(

Gladiator, after the battle with the emperor is fought and he stands there making his proclimation before finally letting go, then the glimpses of Elysium and the music. Music for that film is very haunting.

I'm not sure if this counts, but the Band of Brothers episode with the medics story. Best ever.

I find it hard to put one over another but I've just received Empire of the Sun so one of them would have to be the bit where the Mustang P51's attack the runway and one comes in low past the building Christan Bale is standing on and he starts crying because he can't remember his parents.

I still find the musical score from Platoon to be too haunting at the end of the film as Charlie Sheen is airlifted out.
