No for me, Sharon wants to replace her really shite 17" TFT 4:3 monitor with something better. It's not the resolution or the monitor size that is the real issue, but it really is a horrible picture. Almost all monitors are widescreen now though.

She doesn't want anything too big, certainly nothing like my Dell 24", but the vertical resolution of a lot of the smaller widescreen monitors concerns me. My lappy has a 1280x768 screen and doing anything semi serious on it (Word Photoshop etc) can be frustrating.

1680x1050 would be great, but we'd need to go to a 22" monitor for that, how big would it look compared to my Dell?

The next resolution down is 1440/1600x900. Do any of you lot use these resolutions? Do you feel the relative lack of vertical resolution compared to the old 1280x1024 screens? Does the much greater horizontal pixel count make up for it?

Any recommendations? She has about £150 to spend so should be able to get something pretty good.

Many thanks and Happy New Year

£150 got my PB Maestro 22" monitor.
1680x1050 and I think it's a great size. Text isn't too big nor too small.

If you do want a 4:3 they are still about but aimed at the workplace not home use so the specs do not match up. Dell do a cuple of 20 inch monitors that run 1050. I tried going from a 1024 res to a 900 and gave up in the end and got a 22 inch running 1050.

Thanks Guys.

Soze, that's exactly what I was worried about. The Dell looks great, but isn't sold by many outlets, and has some pretty mixed reviews as far as I can find. Shame because that resolution and size would be perfect for what we want.

Might have to go with a 22" after all, how do they compare side by side with a 24"?

Zenith, is that Packard Bell? I'd never thought of them as a monitor manufacturer before!

Moriath, very nice, but too big and £100 over budget :)

Thanks Edmond, I have just been looking at a very similar LG at Ebuyer. Glad to know that you like them.

Got myself a Samsung SyncMaster 2333 1920x1080 for around £140 a couple of months back from novatech but that was a bit of luck I assume...

Might be able to find one similar in the January sales :)

The 22 is usable i have a 24 at work and i like the extra resolution but the 22 is a nice size. I have never had them side by side to compare the physical size. I would take the missus to PC World or Dixions and get her to take a look at one in person.
