HI Folks

As you progress in eve you will find that there is a bit of a speed bump in your way. Level3 missions are a heck of a step up from lvl 1/2 missions and they may catch you out if you're not expecting them.

I advise you to aim for battlecruisers as your mission boat of choice whilst you work on skills to fly battleships ready for lvl 4s. Once you've can comfortably run lvl4 missions in your battleship of choice you've got a good income stream sorted whilst you decide where you'd like to specialise in Eve.

I've got some friends from warhammer playing eve atm and I've just dont some simple example setups for them - I thought I'd share them here seeing as we seem to have a few people starting up again in dominion.

I've done one lvl 3 setup per race although I haven't tested the drake setup myself yet. The others I know work cos I've used them at various points in time during playing eve.

I've kept all the fittings to tech1, replace with best named if you have them but don't break the bank.

===================

You should have the skills to fit most of these out if you're training for that race's battlecruiser. The drone skills will take at most 1-2 days to get and are well worth it as 5 hobgoblins will go through most webbing / scramming frigates in about 2 minutes giving you plenty of time to get out.

All of these setups should permarun. You might struggle without controlled bursts 4 or solid energy management skills but you can fit CCC rigs with jury rigging 1 (takes 20 minutes to train) and medium ccc rigs are about 1.5mill each in empire atm. Always fit them to your mission boat so you can switch everything on and not worry about cap use.

Is it worth mentioning the hardners are mission specific? ie, use kinetic/EM if thats the damage dealt by the mission

I did that in an assault frigate once - was ratting and let my transversal drop - the af went pop and then I remembered I had officer mod tank fitted.

luckily my officer mods survived and I learnt my lesson re: fitting what you can't afford to replace.

Thanks Mongoose, that gives me something to aim for rather than learning random skills! Though oddly enough from knowing nothing about the game all I need to skill up from that list is the ships and the drone skills so should be sorted in a week or so :)

Oh, whats ratting btw? I have heard it mentioned a few times but I have no idea what it means.

no no no no no no no!

do not upgrade to hurricane - if you have a cyclone stick with it ! it's an awesome mission boat.

On my carebear alt Dacovalina I run something like this;

Highs: 5 x 720mm Artillery II
2 x tractor beam
1 x salvager

Mids:
10mn afterburner II
Sheild Boost Amp
Medium Shield Booster II
Invul Field II
Thermic Deflection Field II (I sometimes switch this out for photon if I'm doing stage 2 of the blood slavers mission arc)

Lows:
Cap Flux Coil II
3 x Gyrostabiliser II

Rigs:
3 x Capacitor Control Circuit II

Drones:
5 x hobgoblin I
=========================

That handles every lvl 3 mission I've seen so far. Munched through Angel Extravaganza with ease too.

In missions try and snipe the frigates at around 40km with Titanium Sabot. once you have aggro from a pocket of ships let the frigs get close whilst you alpha the cruisers down at range. Unlease your drones and let them munch the npc frigates, giggle, recall drones, aggro next pocket of ships, rinse, repeat.

I have a Hurricane banked at the moment which I will be fitting out when I get home (training will be done by then) Should I sell it and go with the cyclone?

Well it all depends bud.

They're two very different ships. Firstly, the cyclone has a rof bonus and a shield boost bonus. If you're going to run that you need to have semi decent shield skills to get the best out of it.

The Hurricane has a Damage bonus a Rate of Fire bonus. On paper it does more dps. It also has 6 turret slots so it means you get more damage because of that 6th gun. Finally it's an armour tanker which is less cap intensive and most minmitar pilots train armour rather than shields so you might already have the skills for that.

What I will say is that getting a cap stable solid tanked cyclone is (imo) easier than getting the same in a hurricane. I can remember my struggles in a hurricane when I was learning the ropes and whilst the cane is a lovely ship and brilliant, I think the cyclone spanks it for missions. It's way easier and more forgiving on low sp and low support skills.

No edit. Just a quicky - I use tech 1 cap control circuit rigs - not tech2 - that would be madness for a "cheap" lvl 3 mission runner considering their cost!

ok...

I would probably drop the 800mm plate. PLates generally are used more for pvp as you need the buffer to give your reps the chance to kick in. The "spike" in mission damage is usually not that wild as to require buffer.

I think you'll struggle to get range on frigs, but I guess with the web in place you've got a means of slowing them down for guns to hit. My concern is that in some missions you'll find cruisers coming into short range and putting your tank under pressure.

I'd probably drop out the plate and put in a reactor control I. Drop the web for a 10mn Afterburner.

I'd then consider dropping the 650's for 720's as soon as you can. The 720's got given some love in this patch and the alpha is pretty intense.

if i drop the plates and put in a control i can fit all 720s and a MWD

*SLAMS HEAD AGAINST WALL* i just spent a fortune doing my current setup!

I could only hold the cap up for a min or so with the MWD but it would be mostly for short bursts rather than for than speed tanking

silly silly me

dont bother using MWD's on missions, most of the times you can't use those once you get to the mission area. fit an afterburner insted if you have to.

MWD does not work in mission deadspace pockets (but they do in complex deadspace pockets)
