If I go on the net at work the IT bods can monitor what we look at can they tell if we are on the night if we Install mIRC?

Cheers :)

A sensible IT bod would bar connections on IRC ports anyway. A bit risky when it probably won't work.

I doubt you will be able to get it work and even if you can then they should be able to tell what youve been using and then stop it. So you may get lucky for a little bit.

If your IT dept arent all bastards then just ask them if its ok to use IRC.

I despise IRC.

The best thing is when idlers moan about being bored after sitting in channels 24/7...erm...lol?

I'm on the internet all day at work :D

If your company uses Windows 2000 or more specifically Terminal Services you may be able to dial into your home PC!

I have it setup at work that I use XP remote desktop to connect to home which then allows me to run most of the apps on my Home PC (aslong as they aren't heavy animation or use layers such as Direct3d, OpenGL or Media Players) I can read my home email and use IRC as well as use the internet with out worry of a firewall deciding that what I'm looking at is not appropriate or that its being logged onto the server for view by admins.

Of course I am one of the IT admins so I have it all setup rather well, I also had it setup so my machine had a Dynamic DNS so that I didn't need to worry about changing IPs.

You'd need to stop sniffing glue first.

Work has blocked all entries to the registry thus preventing us from installing anything! (that needs a registry entry obviously)

Our network admin is a complete spud, I doubt he knows how to wipe his arse let alone monitor what we do.

Hence i'm on IRC and Barrys all day without much worry, I sometimes play DAoC too...

Edit: Thinking about it, that could explain the smell

Tunnel onto irc via port 80, it's encrypted and using the web port so unless they have a lot of time (hello 128 bit encryption) they'll not know what you're up to.

Dont be surprised if you get into serious trouble for doing what Scooba has suggested.
