Actually I consider my life being threatened an emergency (I'm sure you'll say nobody else would or something similar), so try again :p

Surely Angrily shouting a death threat is a death threat?

Well, for example, do football fans get arrested and the police called when they threaten the ref etc? It's just rage and frustration, there is no calculation or plan behind it - it would never hold up in court, say.

But is Meg meant to decide on the spot whether the fella who just rammed his car on purpose is going to ram into him on purpose as well.

Was Stephen Cameron meant to make the same choice?

No, he's meant to grow a pair of balls and stop being scared because he lives in/near Croydon, tbfh.

I'm not scared of Croydon, the fact that you're lowering yourself to such cheap jibes is frankly pathetic.

I am however, not prepared to have a confrontation with someone who's clearly got no regard for human life as they just drove into a motor vehicle on purpose (i.e. a calculated act?). I don't see what's so wrong in my belief that ***** like that should be carted off down the road by the old bill?

Just because someone is prepared to drive into an inanimate object at low speed, does not mean he is prepared to mow you down like he's some kind of serial killer.

While yes, he clearly is a complete arsehole, the situation was never a dire emergency and therefore you shouldn't have phoned 999. 999 should not be for "possible" dangers: it is for REAL dangers. Otherwise we'd all be legitimate in calling 999 for some very, very trivial things....

Think we're straying from the original post/point a little?
As I said before, there's lots to be said about the police force and their priorities - I've got nothing but good to say about my local forces from previous encounters including an RTA, the fault being at my door. Regardless of funding levels, raising awareness of any non-emergency numbers should be a huge priority. I didn't know any, my wife didn't, in fact *none* of my family do - including one of which, a police officer.

Just please remember - a claim that wasn't your fault will have no impact on your insurance. Yeah, it'll be on there - but there are clear distinctions on fault. Unfortunately this may require a little intervention from the police, but they are not likely to ignore it - it may take a little while naturally, but it's in their best interests too to keep justice. The quicker you act the better - it's not just the accident they have to bear in mind - theres a dishonest moron going around hitting peoples cars and denying it. In a sense, that's a hit and run accident, quite serious, and they'll treat it as such.

So Meg is to wait until he is lying in a pool of blood on the floor with tyre tracks across his face until he reaches for his phone?

Not true. I have lost my no claims bonus because of some numpty, and I next insurance I will not have it, so it will go up.

He was never going to end up like that. That is the point.

Then I'm afraid the numptyness lays at your door Swift - this is a good reason to 1. make sure you use a decent insurance company and 2. before proceeding with the claim, ask if this is likely to affect your no claims. You are then in the position to make an informed decision as to whether the money you'd spend fixing the problem is worth more or less than the difference in premium due to that no claims.

I've had 2 accidents in the last 4 years. Both were probably my fault. I still have full no claims and my insurance is as similar to before the accidents as it can be with 3 points for not supplying driver details. If your no claims is that precious protect it, innit. I've saved way over the £100 a year it costs.

Most insurance companies insist you inform them of any accident. And regardless of blame, nearly all insurance policies will be loaded come renewal.

Afaic mate, your attitude towards this is shit. Granted I'm not dead and the things long over and done, but:
low speed
I'd say that was an assumption on your part, what with you not being there?

So since we're playing assumption, I'll assume that it'll be OK when someday in the future this **** runs over and injures or kills your son / daughter / brother / sister / mother / father / friend / etc. one day.

In any event, what's your point? Where do we draw the line? Is someone pulling a knife on you an emergency? Do they have to waive it about first? Do they have to cut you once? Twice maybe? How about when they pierce your heart with the blade?

Hardly helping ol' Gray though, is it...
Certainly no need for bickering over insurance companies or what our perception of their policies is.

You already told us you were stationary at a green light and you weren't paying enough attention when it had changed - must have then changed from red, which means they guy behind you was almost definitely stopped too. So his ability to pick up speed would have been none, considering he was in a van.

So since we're playing assumption, I'll assume that it'll be OK when someday in the future this **** runs over and injures or kills your son / daughter / brother / sister / mother / father / friend / etc. one day.

You're the one that started assumptions: by assuming that the man is some kind of psycho and was out to kill you, you created the problem for yourself. Plus, saying that is bang out of order: have I wished anyone here any harm? You are taking this way too seriously.

In any event, what's your point? Where do we draw the line? Is someone pulling a knife on you an emergency?

Difficult to say, and yes. But a dented car is NOT an emergency.

  1. Try re-reading this thread. I said no such thing Mr Assumption.
  2. How did I "assume" he was a psycho? He willingly and deliberately drove his van into the back of my car and then said he'd do it to me personally. It's quite clear that he's capable of driving a van into things and it was equally apparent that he was being a retard, much like you are at the moment.
  3. I'm not wishing harm on anyone. My point is that by your logic this individual didn't need to be dealt with and should be left alone with the potential to do something far more horrific in the future.
  4. You're missing the point through this anyway. It's not about the car or what did/didn't happen to it. It's about the fact that nobody did anything to restrict or monitor that retards ability to get behind the wheel and do something stupid.

Also he said the junction was blocked, so there was no way he could've gone. If the junctions blocked, you should stay at the light. You have no idea how much trouble it creates when everyone wanders into the junction everytime the light changes.

Its so bad out here now, that they had to paint yellow criss-cross lines everywhere.

And tbh, a driving a car into my car while in a rage and shouting that im next? I'd definitley call the police. I'd like to think I'd have the balls to reverse my car back hard into the guy behind me, but I know id just get scared and call the police.

The guys already shown that he's a threat.

Sorry Swift, but you're dead wrong here; if someone deliberately drives into the back of you, irrespective of their subsequent threats of violence, then that warrants calling the cops. Add in the threats of violence and it's a no-brainer, and I guarantee that if you actually asked a copper his opinion he'd agree.

As for the earlier bit about calling 999 for the wing mirror, yeah I'm not sure I would have done that; but then again having dealt with the non-emergency number after a burglary I can kind of see the point, and also, if the police want you to use a non-emergency number, how about publicising it properly?

Couldn't agree more.

Had a crash on the M6 near brum recently. I pulled out the old mobile and thought "I don't even know who to call". So I was left with no option but to ring the emergency services. You can argue the case that a crash on the motorway is quite serious but it still felt odd phoning 999 when no one was hurt (except my car :().

This is why I have Greater Manchester Police's number on my mobile. Even if I'm not in Manchester, I could just call them and they'd put me through to the correct force.
