High enhance/nurture/aug. spec cleric/druid/shaman who stands in a BK/PK and provides buffs for it's owner; typically a stealther :p

Ah, thank you for that. My reason for asking wasn't just the original post. I have a cleric, but haven't played for a long time because of real life things getting in the way. I come back after about three months and I am completely confused about some of the references made by other players during gameplay.

For example, I was in Darkness Falls last night with a small group and someone asked if I was Derric's(infiltrator) 'buffbot' (My character's name is Derrick!). Since I haven't played for a long time I obviously said that I wasn't, which is the truth, but I had never heard the term before.

Thanks for the explanation!

I am levelling my shaman atm, mainly for passing time while waiting for SI. I am sick and tired of my sissy skald, and am planning to play a savage come SI. However form reading what people say at vnboards, savages have a rough time in PvE up to 40+, so I decided to make a bot to help him level.

I build him as a 42 aug/33 mend, but not for the purpose as a buffbot, but for the purpose of PLing and farming (Ofcourse he will buff people on those sort of things). Once the savage is 50, it will be nice to duo some tough mobs for seals, item drops, money etc.

No, I do not considor buffbots a "cheat", as you aren't exploiting any sort bug or violating any part of the CoC. You PAY for 2 accounts to own one...

Regardless of that, I despise buffbots as much as the rest of you, the way buffs work atm is wrong, they should have an "active" range much like a skalds run/dmgadd or rest song has. Why there is no range on buffs must be because mythic prefers to have that many more active accounts subscribed.

However, I do not see buffbots as a HUGE problem that impacts the game so very much, just because you run into someone in the frontier and it takes 3 of you to kill him only to see 5+ buffs drop, doesn't mean he has a buffbot, he could've been buffed by either someone in his group or a friendly bypasser.

Yes, Hibernia has some buffbots, I know two for sure :) but one of them is used by a flavour-of-the-month enchanter:)

I can see a day when all RvR buffbots are going to be nerfed to hell by some kind of range restriction... OH HAPPY DAYS.

A range restriction on buffs means ok you have your buff bot.... but your going to have to risk it getting eatten alive, no more leaving it camped all warm and safe. If you want those buff, you better protect them :)

Hardbein did nothing wronge, he bought the shammy out to play.

Not many Hibs have buff bots, I can only name 5 players who do have them, one being purely used for PvE. I'm one of those few Hibs that have a buff bot.

Fact is I solo a hell of a lot, there was a time, a few months back before I had my buff bot, that I'd go solo, it was hard as hell, died lots, but when I did get kills I saw a whole lot of buffs drop off. Start out with the reasoning that hey, if a known buff bot user is camping the gorge I'll use my buff bot, and that's how it worked for a while. Not bothering to drop the buffs once or twice I headed to emain, solo'd a lot more assassins with my buffs, and realised something, that in about 15 different Infiltrator kills, each and everyone was buffed, about 9 out of 10 SBs also. This is where I drew the line, why should I be left at a disadvantage when I don't have to be? When I can have fights on equal standing - and win? Even then I very often can't be bothered to log my buff bot in and just stick to self buffs, they do for a lot of encounters nowadays, that or I end up letting everyone else use all the conc and leave none for myself :p

I know I'm not the only one who's made and started to use a buff bot under these circumstances as I've heard the story before (Emma :p), now you can call it selfish, or whatever, and say it wont stop if you don't stop, but lets face facts, it wont stop if I do stop either, the only difference it'll make is I'll lose more battles due to uneven terms and thus dent my enjoyment of the game. Remember also that even if I and many others stopped using buffbots, not everyone would, how do I make this conclusion? Simple, because some people used buffbots from the beginning and it'll be those that wouldn't care about stopping the epidemic.

Would I care if Mythic stopped buff bots? No, I'd love it, it'd mean every battle I had was on fair standing, exactly the way it should be.

Buff bots will be around and used by a very large handful of people until the day Mythic prevent them, if ever, I can't however see that happening as it'll reduce revenue for Mythic. So what are the solutions? To either make one yourself, or to accept that they're part of what you could be up against when fighting an opponent, if you don't get used to it now it'll annoy you for a very long time, because you can be pretty sure in any game you play, things like that wont go away.

Just as a final thought on the whole ethics of buffbots, say some guy plays DAoC alongside his wife, he wants to go off RvRing whilst she's in the mainland with a buff class wanting to craft, she throws some buffs on her husband (Being happily married and in love, she'll be happy to do that for him every time he needs them) and he wanders off to RvR. Look at the scenario, something very realistic and perfectly feasible, the thing is the guy would be respected for doing well, making 10million kills because he doesn't use a buff bot. Now also look at the scenario and consider what the differences are between that and someone using a buff bot? Would you consider the buff bot user any less lame? Not trying to justify anything with this point, just adding food for thought :)

I used my lvl44 druid to buff my ranger for a few days to see if it was any more fun. It summed up to that I didnt loose to one single Inf or SB solo. Was it fun? No. Resulted in that I lvl up a hero now instead that is a good groupclass. Of all infs and SB's I encountered 1 was unbuffed.

BuffBots on this server was not made first by blades.
Some evuul hunters had them long before, guess some infils got tired of being owned by a hunter made 1 then the snowball became bigger.
If hunters made it to counter infils I cant say dont have a char on alb prydwen.

But everybody is buffed to max almost leaving Pk and a blade soloing will have a damm hard time killing anything, uber pa unbuffed on a caster 260- 500 :/ when he finds 1 and dont get zerged the second after
Groupping ( sb group or mixed group) they are also disliked but hmmm everybody runs in zerg and can be very boring runing alone.
So doesnt matter what blades do they are just gay :p why they use leather and mostly in black.
O ^ O forgot the most important reason Mythic made them, is so Mattshanes can whiiiiiiiiiiiine all day :)

Bots

You guys are missing out! - You should get a Caster, and then get a shield spec warrior to be the "Block Bot"!! :)

Normally if I go RvR I find my lvl 46 warrior stuck to some lvl 50 caster with guard on them. Works quite well actually! ;-P

Every realm has buffbots but that doesn't excuse the fact that they are ruining the fun.

I used to like running solo in Emain and finding some targets I thought I could kill. It's bad enough wandering up to AMG, seeing a lone infil, PAing him and 3 of his friends popping up beside you or dealing with FA/IP but when they are buffed to the eyeballs it just stinks.

All realms have buffbots. Hmm.. I have a hypothesis. Mids have highest percentage of bots per account, then alb, hibs have lowest. Does that sound right?

The next question will be, why is that so? Out of all mid classes, shamen must be the rarest actively played in RvR.

Dunno Ottar, since shammies had some lovin' more and more appearing on the frontier as the peeps that started making them in the last couple of patches start hitting 50 - their group utility value has been upped and their 'fun' aspect has been upped with the offensive capabilties being strengthened. There are a lot of full-cave shammies coming up the levels which are going to be very nasty in RvR when they hit 50.

Finding a healer on the other hand can be a nightmare, sometimes lucky to see one between 3 groups.

That's the problem though.

We have alot of Shammys both RvRing and exping but none of them are support specced :(

It's that way becouse mids are evil, all bad things come from Midgard..

err, nm, forgot about Lochlyessa, she's evil and from alb. My apologies.

Must agree totally with Falcon, except on the issue where she says five bots in Hibernia, doubt that.
But when you're owned all the time by buffed players and you dont want to quit the game, you get a bot, as simple as that.

Whenever my gf dont play i have a buffbot allso, and it can be compared to assasins loseing IP. No assasin ever really wanted it (well majority anyway) becuase theres so much else funstuff to spec in, but just to be able to compete they choose IP, and now that they know they are gonna lose it, everyone is happy.
And another thing is that people dont just get a buffbot "puff heres a bot mister" it takes just as long time and work getting a "bot" up in level.
When you go solo to the frontier and get jumped by 2 players, most would think ohwell. But when you go solo to the frontier and get attacked by a buffed char (which can be seen as 2 people) most scream OMG NERF!
Where excatly is the big difference between 1 or 2 persons behind the screen ?
And as Falcon said, if i where to tell my GF to run around with my bot and go craft or something while i was rvr'ing people wouldnt see a problem at all...
That said i do hope mythic makes it impossible to own a bot so everyone gets brought down to pair again, but i doubt it.

Well I for one would be happy if bots in RvR zones were rendered useless (then we wouldn't have to use our own to be able to compete with the others who are bot'ed to compete with the others who are bot'ed etc...) but the problem is how to solve it, some say make the buffs rangedependant. But what about the stealther scouting ahead for the group, is it fair the he/she should lose their buffs when stepping out of range .. they're just helping out the group and using their chars special abilities. Best would be if GoA or Mythic made bots breach against coc, but the problem then would be to verify that it's really a bot, what if it's just a <insert buffclass here> who's sitting in the portal keep crafting?

Buffs are still out there, just ask a <insert buffclass here> in a nice manner and you're bound to get some loving if they got the conc to spare.

Needs to be thought over or it'll just make alot of people unhappy :)

There are many more aspects then just buffbots, but this is the most obvious, so everyone complains about it.
First, one has to decide whether he/she wants everyone to be able to compete on about even terms or not.
If the answer is yes, I feel you will never be happy. In a game like this, it all comes down on the time you spend to get more powerful : level to 50, get ra, good items, uberdrops, sc ubergear, buffbot, speedbot, friends, be able to play efficiently, good rvr guild with ppl who can react to each others moves.

So some people prefer to level up a buff class instead of farming for items or have insane amounts of money spent on sc gear or I dont know what.

The point being that for each of these issues you will have to spend a lot of time and they will make you more powerful.
But people only whine about buffbots and that its not fair.
Are fights against blue cons fair ? And against lower realm rank opponents ? People who dont have uber gear ? Solo ppl ? PPl who arent in a uber rvr guild ?
No, they arent. If you want fair, play CS on a hackfree server or at home. This is a war and all will try to beat you with all means possible as they should.
So stop whining, it wont help.

And my point about it being a war doesnt mean that you cant be respectful, salute a dead opponent...but kill him first :)

If he's scouting ahead then he won't be using the buffs, they don't make stealth any more effective, just combat...

The range on buffs idea is probably the fairest way of doing it, it doesn't really 'nerf' anyone. The alternative would be to make them cast (i.e. with a duration) rather than conc buffs, in comparison that would be a nerf...

Yes... your point ?

If he's in a group (which was the example given) then they are not too far behind to give him some help, if required.

The only people that would be 'nerfed' by ranging the buffs are the ones that are, regardless of how you argue it, abusing the game mechanics...

I fail to see how depriving a scout stealther of buffs from a group could be considered fair.. especially if its an archer we get jumped all the time by assassins and those con buffs etc might just keep you alive long enough for the group to reach you and help out.

And not nerfing anyone lol well i guess no one cares about archers and stealthers anyway heehee

Danm you read through those 3 pages to make that point .. and just before I am done .. there you go !!!

on a other notice.. I can't think of a single no-buffbot high aug specced shaman (I am sure there are someone, somewhere)..... so is it really a wonder that many mids make buffbots?
