Microsoft Outlook Junk folder disable for one account

Anyone know if it's possible to switch off the junk mail function in MS Outlook for just one account?

Don't use mine for mail anymore, but can you not introduce a filter along the lines of

"e-mail from <<ACCOUNT>> mark as NOT SPAM"

I have loads of email addresses in Outlook and a lot of the mail I get is junk, so it's okay for the majority... but one particular email address that I use for my business I want to receive everything, including the junk, because I keep missing important emails where people send me attachments or stuff with links in, thinking they never sent it when it's actually in my Junk folder.

Using what you wrote I need something like e-mail to <<ACCOUNT>> mark as NOT SPAM, however I go about that.

It should be possible using outlooks filters iirc as I've previously done something similar (mark all e-mails received as junk)

Go to Tools > Options > Junk Mail > Safe Recipient. This will make Outlook Ignore messages to that address.

Hi Maljonic

Try soze's 'whitelist' option, which will ensure mail from people in your address book (and/or the addresses you specify) will always bypass the spam filter. Obviously whitelisted senders can still send you harmful content, so always be careful opening attachments, clicking links etc.

Jonty, I think you have the wrong end of the stick if I'm reading you right.

I want to whitelist everyone in the entire world sending emails to, say, me @ me.com - I don't want ANY mail sent to this address to be junked, I want to receive ALL the junk, everything that is sent to me @ me.com needs to get through, regardless of the content and who has sent it.


Still, what soze looks says like it should work, but for some reason I get an error that says: "You cannot add your own email address to the Safe Recipients List because most junk mail will no longer be caught."

How annoying, it's saying I can't do exactly what I want to do, not catch junk mail.

I guess what you want to do is possible, but sadly I don't have Outlook installed to play with. No doubt someone knows the answer, though.

May I ask why it's a problem to just periodically check the Junk Items folder? (I'm not criticising, just curious).

P.S. Not that it's a good solution, but can you use a wildcard in the safe senders list? e.g. *@me.com This may stop Outlook warning you about whitelisting your own email address.

Thanks Jonty, I tried your P.S. but it didn't work.

I don't even understand why it's saying I "can't add your own email address" for this account, it lets me add other accounts and this isn't my default account either?

As for periodically checking the Junk folder, it's just too much hassle - I get about 600 emails a day for about 40 accounts, more than half of which will be sent to the junk folder, which is fine for most of them apart from my web design email where I don't want to miss anything or have to sift through the junk folder every few hours.

forward all the mails from the account you want to be unjunked to another account, then forward that onto your main account and put that account in the whitelist

That sounds like it would work, it's a bit convoluted though and I'd have to make another email account with spam filtering switched off at the server level. I'll give this a try though if there's no other way.

Turn off Outlook's spam filters and then use an external spam program tbh. I still think you can get round this using the standard "filters" to process mail from the one account so as to stop it being processed by the junk filters.

I still don't follow what you mean, I don't send myself any emails.

I may do as you say though and simply switch junk mail off in Outlook and just rely on Spam Assassin for my other accounts I guess.

No, no, no. You can use normal filters in outlook (nothing to do with junk e-mail, it's a separate feature) to do things to the items as they arrive, e.g. sort e-mails from e-mail account "X" into a folder "X1".

My memory, as I don't use outlook anymore, was that you can create a filter along the lines of:

When E-MAIL comes in THROUGH "account X" THEN "move to inbox" AND "stop processing more rules"

The last part is important as it stops outlook doing anything else.

I would use a rule saying: when email arrives check to see if these specified words appear in the recipients address move to this specified folder.

That should work...

Dys, its set at the server side email account level AND the outlook client level so jsut changing the rule/filter won't actually do jack
