No, you're wrong. In fact, its illegal to sell draught beer or cider in pubs in the UK in anything other than Imperial measures. Its one of the only official Imperial measures that will be left after 2009 (along with miles and acres). There were cases of local councils a few years back trying to put up Metre signs and they were forced to remove them. Its the same with beer, you have to get a special dispensation to sell beer in 1/2 or 1 liter glasses and Trading Standards would check your glasses against an Imperial pint, not a 568ml measure.
You've completely missed the point. If they changed the law so that beers could only be served in 586 ml (ie. the specific amount of mls in a pint) but you were still alowed to order 'a pint' would we suddenly be using metric? I don't believe when you order a pint you are 'using' imperial and then you order a shot and are 'using' metric.
I understand that these are served in specific measures but i think the name has gone beyond it. If the EU made us serve pints in ml multiples of 10 and so we all switched to 580 ml glasses we would all still call them pints. Would we still be using (badly) the imperial system or as far as you are concerned is it only the legality behind the name that is important?
