Okay, for my swedish namesake, I'll explain my thinking. :)

I remember when Labour was last in power at the end of the 1970's.

  • Rubbish was uncollected in the streets.
  • There were electricity shortages.
  • The Unions had workers on strike frequently.
  • The income tax rate was 33%.
  • The country's debt was 49.1% of GDP.

I specifically remember the "Winter of Discontent", even as a child.

Fast-forward to today.

  • Rubbish is uncollected in the streets in Leeds because the refuse collectors are on strike. Most county councils have implemented 2-weekly refuse collections instead of weekly collections.
  • Power stations are being decommissioned without new capacity being built to take up the slack. Wylfa nuclear power station on Anglesey is now shutdown, but generated almost 1000MW (1GW) at peak capacity. We have had 55x2MW wind turbines built locally in the last few years. Thats about 10% of the capacity of the old nuclear power station. There is a distinct probablity of power shortages in years to come because of ineffective direction from government.
  • A knock-on effect of the power station shutting down is Anglesey Aluminium have had to shut down as well because they no longer have a cheap supply of electricity. Hundreds of people were put out of work.
  • Unions are urging their workers to strike far more often. The Royal Mail are on a 2 day strike as of Thursday this week.
  • Ok, the income tax rate is about 20%, but that's because of an ongoing reduction over the last 30 years.
  • The UK's current debt is about 47.9% of GDP, the highest it's been since 1978... when Labour were last in power and on their last legs.
It's not identically the same, but there are MANY parallels between Labour now and Labour then. I can never bring myself to vote for them. I've watched them wreck the country... TWICE.

This doesn't even take into account the RIP Act, Terrorism Act, Human Rights Act, PACE Act, ID Cards, surveillance, political-correctness and an over-zealous State intruding into our everyday lives.

I also like the colour blue. :)

Vote Lib Dem. How bad can it get?
As bad as it is now, i.e. another 4 year labour term (read: I wish I'd voted Conservative last time).

Shall be voting for the green party myself. Labour will not be getting into power again, I fear the conservatives will change very little and the lib dems unfortunately don't stand a chance of overhauling both of them in one go without significantly overhauling one of them in at least one election prior to getting into power.

The green party, while I dread to think what'd happen if they got into power, I'd like for them to have more of a say in what goes on, thus get more seats then they've had before. It'll be little conciliation for another crap party being in power but hey, it's better then nothing. A democracy with stagnated top end parties is no democracy at all...

It's all to do with the fact that Labour has fucked this country up. Fuck their policies and their history, any **** that thinks you can increase borrowing to get out of debt is a retard, end of.

why do people think that voting tory is going to make things better?

Because the party has a track record of righting Labour's wrongs.

Labour have a track record of leaving the country massively in debt.

What was so bad when the Tories got voted out? Sleaze? The sleaze that caused such a massive drama in the press is small scale compared to Labour. Oh no, some one recieved a back hander to ask a question, someone had their toe sucked vs oh no, we totally lied about the reasons for going for war, oh no, a man has been found dead in a park and we're going to cover it up, refuse a proper enquiry, and stage it like a suicide, oh no, we're selling honours for donations to the Labour party.

But to be fair, Wylfa used to accidentally discharge radioactive gasses on a regular basis. Like every six months of its operation.

Mackerel fishing at the hot water outlet pipes was particularly bountiful though... :)

Ok, the income tax rate is about 20%, but that's because of an ongoing reduction over the last 30 years.

I'm still with you tho - under Labour tax has risen massively. They learned their lesson from last time and did it in an underhand manner this time round...

...the *****.

Quite simply because they fuck around in your personal life less.

Mainly because they don't give a fuck as much as Labour do. But the end result is a nicer country to live in.

No offence (I'm on a spree of offending lots of people at the mo) - but I'm guessing you're not that old, so can't tell the difference.

there's two parties in with a chance. hence, I'll vote tory. I've normally voted libdem but they are a bunch of damp squibs generally. probably run the economy into the shitter.

The economy's already in the shitter. Come on, vote Lib Dem for a laugh - lets face it - they'll allow all sorts of proper porn on the telly!
