I think they went after piracy because they felt people were stealing their product.

Do you honestly thing Metallica went after piracy because they had some moral objection to it? :eek7:

First:

I think they went after piracy because they felt people were stealing their product.

it's like going after some people who come in your house and take your stuff.

But secondly, many known people(simply because we hear their opinion) have voiced their dislike towards piracy. Even those that arn't effected are saying that piracy is bad and should be stopped.

Simply 'cause metallica is a band and is directly effected by it, doesn't mean they couldn't have a moral dilemma with it also.

Not as stupid as putting the onus on Metallica to set a president when there are countless examples of other band/groups/artist blatantly ripping people off in this country and their tours in general,
Aside from the fact that is irrelevant to the argument, Where did i say that bands/groups/artists dont regularly rip people off?

Hmm i wonder why the thread is revolving around Metallica?.. Could it be because the thread was titled and used as an example throughout?

but then this is coming from someone who steadfastly refused to accept that Nirvana were a "huge" band.
Wow how mature, but then you have no argument so lets try insulting people instead.. despite the fact it was Yaruar who came up with some valid evidence and a coherant argument to proove me wrong...
you really are quite pathetic sometimes

As for £10-15 to see a gig at club that's normal, as is £25-35 for an arena and £40-60 for a stadium and £150-170 for a 3 day festival.

Now go find out who actually rips people off, there are plenty of examples from the last 12 months.
Babyshambles tickets - Wembley - £25
Youssou N'Dour tickets - Indigo 2 (at the O2) - £25
Ricky Skaggs tickets - Indigo 2 (at the O2) - £20
John Hiatt tickets Indigo 2(at the O2) - £24.50
Dr. John tickets - Indigo 2 (at the O2) - £30
OMD tickets - Indigo 2 (at the O2) - £27.50
DJ Shadow tickets - Indigo 2, The O2 Arena - £27.50
Aimee Mann tickets - Indigo 2 (at the O2) - £20
Joss Stone tickets - Indigo 2 (at the O2) - £30

Not that any of the above is relevant, try actually reading the post

If it was about the music they wouldnt care about the profits, prime example Gorillaz who took a loss when they did their funky light show.
THAT is doing it for the music. i am by no means saying you should take a loss but the majority of every ticket is profit not cost for the venue
Or are you seriously incinuating that it costs £3,500,000 (70,000, average) to 4,500,000 (90,0000 people, capacity crowd) to run a concert
I couldnt care less what they charged, but its rather stupid to claim they do it for the music....

You didn't you stated that Metallica should make tickets cheaper when they charge the going rate and you made no comment about bands that actually rip people off.

It's not my duty to spoon feed you, Yaruar just provided info and links to what I had already said and what you were trying to disagree with even in the face of overwhelming opposition and after you admitted pulling your info from Wiki. (And as I recal you started in on me with the clueless opinion that time aswell) and as in that case you start with the "that’s a stupid" type comment which I pointed out to you at the time and you seem to have used on me now. You have no right to expect any fucking manners from me so don't fucking even go there.

Wow and only 1 (who the fuck is Ricky Skaggs anyway) falling outside of the £25-£35 I stated for an Arena venue? Whats your point? proving my comments about pricing was right? or am I missing something?
EDIT : I am guessing that these are prices without booking fees, which would put them all in the price range I mentioned?

I couldnt care less what they charged, but its rather stupid to claim they do it for the music....

I never made that claim.

Quite, there's loads, but i doubt they wouldn't bother with a freebie concert now and then.

There fans, music, live show rush, just playing, cash, publicity, etc etc etc...

Could list probably all day.

The fact is, it's stupid to say it's "just for the music" and it's equally stupid to say "It's for the cash".

My opinion on the matter is that it's least about the cash still, since they got plenty. And some.

LOL, the start of your next paragraph is rich considering i need to spoon feed you in this instance.
So were agreed the going rate is ripping people off?
How can they be bad for it if they sell standard price tickets and have always done so? Yeah the Napster thing was shit and they have been punished plenty for that one and rightly so. :p
surely they should be doing the opposite if it was really "for the music", and making the tickets cheaper
it's not as if they need the money
You have said in the first quote that you agree the "standard" prices are ripping people off, so incidently Metallica is ripping people off...
You just answered your own question of how "it is bad",

Unbiased maybe, Inaccurate defiantly and also it's incredibly convenient for you.

Says the guy who states one of the biggest most influential bands of their time was not THAT Great or THAT big, yeah right, and I am not a fanboi either, nice weak assumption with some even weaker put downs to boot. Is this the point that you expect me to give you credit for anything you say?

I don't have to like someone’s music or be a fan to appreciate what they do and the impact of it, I don't subscribe to the "I don't like them so they must be shit" mentality, like a lot of "Music Fans" wannabe "Critics".
The only comment before that could have been counted as a flame before that was that i said if you were going to act like a fanboi and ignore any argument against Nirvana then there was little/no point continuing the discussion.

Metallica charged £40 on last minuite and £80 on ticketmaster for similar capacity venues
It also deosnt matter "who the fuck they are", you wanted comparisons for similar settings. As i said in my post i didnt see the relevance to my argument

I never made that claim.
tohorti did, and it was also my initial argument as quoted above.

Stop talking crap, you jump into a discussion with no clue as to what you are saying and then start trying to justify your comments on quick google searches and dishing out your fucking opinion to me.

I don't carry arround evidence of my life experience so excuse me for not backing up my comments, (not that i have ever felt the need anyway, I am sure your googling at the time proved that i was right). I know prices because I have paid to see approx 80 (Large) gigs alone over the last 10 years not from a quick fucking google search like you did. And I knew Nirvana was a huge band because I was there at the time again, not based on quick google searches like you did.

Thank you and good night :m00:

(I will concede that I don't know every price of every ticket ever sold so may be out on a few details, but generally speaking I am on the ball)

wtflolz. go to an iron maiden gig and tell me that it isn't worth paying that money. based on the PERFORMACE of the musicians rather than whether or not you like the music style. IM are a band that work harder and perform better than any other i've known, new or old.

Ah, the old ignorant arguments, I wonder how long it would take to surface.

Trance is not the only music I like and unless you want to go on a rampage of about 20 different styles of music making stupid comments about them I suggest you stop with that train of thought.

Iron maiden..just shouting into a microphone and smashing a guitar...woot I can make idiotic stereotypical comments too.

P.S if you knew ANYTHING about the structure of music you would know it was impossible to put something on a 5 second loop and make it sound audible.

But don’t let fact get in the way of a go…attempted insult.

Now "Run to the hills" and stop attempting to "make a funni", because you have the logic of a slightly retarded snail.

you STARTED the thread with an ignorant argument :p

Erm, I started a lite satirical post, which some people started fisting themselves about. It's not my fault you didn't get it so decided to go on a little ignorampage which got promptly to be shot down and now you're trying to cover your tracks by saying LOL mates I was pointing out that YOU were being a hypocrite!

so my "better than your shitty trance <<grin smiley>>" wasn't enough to show i was being lighthearted?

p.s. how come when you have a pissy fit about a music type it's "satire" and when everyone else does it it's "fisting themselves" xD
