Mentalist PvE solo strategy

Just started a mana mentalist (lvl8) n need some tips for PvE solo.

Atm i start pulling with DD, then mezz n retreat some steps back: DoT, stun, n DDs till the mob engage me. Im surprised that even blue mobs reach melee range after this pull, my fire wizard in exc killed yellows only with spells.
Im doing the correct way??

dot with both spec line dots, run, /face when mob is on 50% health, dot with both again, dd.

Didnt know u can combine both DoT lines effects, that explains all.

No need to run back. Dot, Dot, Stun, DD, DD, QCDD - Dead(the mob of course) Works with yellows and you get rarely hit as long as your dots dont get resisted.

whandall, he is lvl 8, do you think he got a 9 sec stun or something ? by the time he dots twice the mob is all up in his face.

Or try light mentalist.

Once you get to lvl 20-ish you can solo orange trees (high orange even).
I do it like this:

DD, DD, Stun (Unless i had a crit and both hit), DD, DD (If still nescesarry).
If they do not resist you take oranges down with 4 nukes (Hello 3 power relics ;)) Just to be safe i use a stun.

Uhm well - right tyka but with the 2nd stun its possible. My little Menta is only 24 and it works quite well now ;)

Maybe with DD, mezz, retreat 2 steps, DoT, stun, DoT, DDs.....

ok my mana ment can take oranges by useng his 2 DoTs and stun only.....i double dot...stun....move back when it gets bored and runs from me to try to heal i chase give him another dot and wait for my XP :) ut then again i use this on trees and they dont have much HP's dont know how well this works on other mobs.

Walk into the light my son.. :D

I;ve a lvl 8 light menty and yellows down in 4 DD's and a stun (stun is 3 secs :( )

Works well on low lvl's and the mana usage is pretty good.. can usaully kill 4-5 mobs b4 needing a rest.

Will put lvl 9 point into mana tho for PoT 1

DoT (specced), DoT (base), Stun, DD, DD, QC-DD

but...

it will only work after lvl 15 when u get the 5 sec stun... :p

yellow mobs will still reach melee range... at least till u have a longer lasting stun...

with the lvl 36 (8 sec.) stun u can do oranges that way and yellows will no more reach u... ;)

I usually do: dot, dot, stun, dd. then wait for the mob to die. With the lower stuns you'll probably have to run backwards a little though. ;) Sometimes need a second dd to finish the mob off, if I crit I can often just dot once and stun then let it die (with maybe one dd on a high yellow).

Ok tested all ur suggestion n the conlcusion is:
Mana Mentalist level 8 is a total C R A P. I can barelly kill blue mobs (need to tank em 1/4 life). If i DoT, DoT, stun run, they turn back after a while n run miles away. Not to mention that yellow mobs r totally impossible coz tank em 1/4 life means mentalist dead.

DoT, DoT, stun , DD, DD, QCDD leaves the mob with 1/4 life which is imposible to tank.

Played all the evening and i gave up, specially when i see all the enchn00bs killing yellows with 3 dd n even oranges.

Well I levelled to 41 as light then respecced (now 43 mana, 12 light at level 43). I'd suggest you do 1-20 as light, then respec to mana at 20. Your stun will be high enough to be useful by then.

basically, at lower levels solo will be a bit difficult IF you go full spec mana soley

why?

because you can't put any points into light or mentalism, due to casters having only 1.x points per level, until 40+

the only thing you have to help out is +light or +mentalism items, and even that will be capped fast


SO

this is how to solo as a full mana mentalist below 40

get an item that gives +1 or more to mana

find mob (preferably weak to heat or energy)

DD, DD, (spec) dot, (base) dot, turn around and walk away.. depending on the mob, you can either start on your next one while walking away, or you'll need a bit more work..

please note, this can be changed in a lot of ways, since the range on the DoT is now same as the range on a DD..
so you could, dot, dot.. dd, dd until it is too close
or, dot, dot, dot, dot dot...

mainly depends on mob and your amount of levels (with +items) in the magic lines

do not bother using stun
if you have to use stun, you're solo'ing the wrong mob

Stun is useful in dungeons, but it's more efficient not to bother. Also bear in mind stun is cheaper now tzee. ;)

dungeons were not really designed for mages to solo :)

and yeah, i know its cheaper, but its a waste of time+mana..

especially as a mana mentalist, i could throw in a spec dot and do as much damage as i could have done over the duration of the stun

even as light spec, you should not require to use stun, save for emergencies

doing yellow irewood greenbarks last night...
found +10 worth of mana items.
mob is weak to heat.
dot (spec), dot (base), dd, walk off, wait 15 secs... receive xp. :)
If it resists, stun and recast the resisted spell(s).

well, as a lvl 17 full mana, i have found one thing which works quite well...

HoT (self), DoT (spec), DoT (baseline), DD, stick-em...

if your lucky, you will get time for a second DD, but its not essential. the HoT gives you the healing in the fight to be able to take the battering from the mob...

note: i have been using this mainly in Muire - if your outside, you should be able to start from max range, in which case the mob aint gonna be beating on ya for long...

note: cast spec DoT first, as it will do the most damage, and if it gets resisted, you have more time to recast, or run away.

Lvl 11 mana ment:

DoT(spec), DoT, stun, sprint and count to 3, /face, DoT and 1 dead yellow mob without any dmg taken at all.

Stun allows you to run for 3 secs while the DoT still ticking and you also get the distance to DoT/DD it. I prefer to DoT since I like to taunt the mob while it slowly walks towards death.

I don't bother with stun usually... sprint is more power efficient. :)

With my tactics it's slightly longer to wait for full end regen than mana ;)

got a lvl 16 meantalist 10 lite 12 mana i think :) pot my self charm a pet an dot the mobs :)

Mana becomes a more significant factor at higher level. :p

stick 10 in lite for easy start then u can respec at 20 if u dont like it

Ok, as some of you tend to not get what tzee said i will say it again.

--> Do not use stun, ever <--

The only time you should use stun is in rvr. There is one exception tho, and that is when you are out of end and need to get away, thats the only time.

--> If you need to use stun you are soloing the wrong mobs <--

Stun is pure wasted power, soloing is ALL about power costs/exp received.

--> Sprint > stun <--

After about 75 levels of soloing as a mentalist this is the only thing i found out that is WRONG to do, and that is to stun.

Just so you all know :D

Edit: AS for how to solo as a level 8 ment, do like this.

Dot, Dot, sprint. Now, watch the HP bar of the mob VERY closely, as when it hits 50%, he will turn and run away, so at 60%ish you /face and double dot again and keep running, rinse and repeat.

It worked for me at level 8, so should work for you.
