It's not just big record companies though, a friend of mine runs his own Label/promotion/management http://www.eulogymedia.com/ and although not selling bucketloads of the last album, was doing ok, until the day it appeared on torrents when sales declined to almost nothing. These aren't the fat cats, it effects everyone, including the guys who just need the cash for studio time. It's a shame, it does seem that the internet has actually devalued music. Back in the day it was quite a major thing to go get an album/cd and people put value on the bands and music, but these days it's easy for a kid to have tens of thousands of songs, and they become a totally throwaway thing.I think it's a good thing that big record companies go under, the more the better. It would help bring creativity and individuality back, instead of brand after brand.
