been a while since I came on the general forum (and reading some of the posts I remember why... :)) - basically I'm in need of a replacement for the shambles that now is Napster - i downloaded Gnutella but it can never seem to connect to any servers or sommin which is fucked.

So, can someone either shed light on what I'm doing wrong with Gnutella, or alternatively tell me of a much better alternative :)

Thx

morpheus is the best (from musiccity.com) - you share any file type, go to musiccity.com and click the ad for it on the right

audiognome.com

I'd stick to clients that access the napster-alike networks, rather than the gnutella ones, personally

Thanks all, I downloaded BearShare which works great, however I hear its SpyWare which is gay (and thus I advise others who advised it to me to stop using it) and will try the other alternatives

Bearshear is ok-ish but last version I had 2.2(2) you couln't resume from the Limewire Client and most of the download speeds were pretty awful. As for spyware I just cofigured my firewall to stop them accessing the net but AFAIK they were only dummy progs waiting to be activated in future releases, which may now be the case.

I don't us BS anymore because Direct-Connect from http://www.neo-modus.com is soooo much better if a little resource hungry and prone to minor instabilities. Try it and let me know what you think.

hmm, I gotta agree

WinMX has the UGLIEST logo ever seen

the site and the program are both torture to human eyes

audioGnome works pretty well - it connects to Napster style networks and I haven't had any major probs with it.

Except for the countless other programs that do the same job, prettier.

(This includes rapigator, morpheus, imesh, limewire, etc)

None of them suffer from rankness of the window, unlike our friend WinMX.

Morpheus allows you to resume if there are mirrors at the time (Usually 10 or so even for stuff that i want [metal:]).

Also, it will allocate differently sized sections of the file to each mirror, the size is calculated by the speed of each location and will completely kill your connection, ie, you DoS yourself due to running out of bandwith completely. Well i do on my modem :(..

If you have cable, and you choose a popular file, with a couple other cable users, a couple ADSL's maybe a T1 too and 20 modems etc, i imagine it would be fast, well, as fast as you could get on any other dynamic media sharing system.

Since there is just one collective, everyone who uses Morpheus will be on the same "server" as you (Napster was gay), even now there is 40Tb on a quiet day, i'v seen 70, and its not really that well known yet.

Like Scour, *MX etc, there are Music vids, pics, etc.. even Documents, which you can download of course..

You can also disable sharing.

It really has potential, on modem, last night i downloaded Aces High (Mpeg) in 80mins :)

Dont give me abuse if anything else does this stuff too, as i don't feel like trying every one of them to see what they do :)

Call me a rebel, a nonconformist or a social outcast, I don't care. The other day in a bout of rebelion I went to the music store and gave the lady behind the cashier, cash and she let me walk out of the store with an album without the alarm going off.
I aint scared of nuffing.
I do howevr warn you, I am a fully trained professional and have experience.
I therefore do not take any responsibilty for copycat actions of this nature.

Can't get any Music Vids from stores can you ;)

Well, possibly some, but never what I want.

Hard to find bootlegs too, which I don't actually get from Napster type software anyway.

Some people collect Bootlegs so I download a bunch of MP3'd ones from various people I know.
