Spot on.

To be honest - the fact this is the first event like this for a long time shows how rare a situation it can be.

no it isn't, sadly kids go missing all the time.

People aren't saying that they don't care she has been snatched or that they think she deserved it, they are saying the parents were negligent. but rather than facing up to their responsibility they are jet setting around the world meeting the pope and other "celebrities"

They should be asked to come back to the UK to face charges because tbh no responsible parent would leave a child so young on their own.

i mean just look at the web site Bring Madeleine Home this has nothing to do with a missing child now, its turning into a media circus with all the usual "look at us, we care about whats going on in the world" bullshit, she even has a fucking logo

*waits for trashy TV movie*

i cant belive some of you tbh, just becuase they put thier kids to bed an go for a drink 20 meters away she "deserves" to get snatched?

stupidest thing ive heard,

every1 is so quick to blame the parents, why not blame the sick fucking pheado **** who snatched her???

yes they were a bit stupid and irresponsible but i bet if any of you ask your parents at soem point when u were young they went out while u were sleeping even if just to go next door for a drink,

lets stick every parent in the world in jail

an then we can be like zomg jail is full better release some more pheadophiles
first of all, it's not like they left them at home where only they have the keys. it's a hotel room, they don't know who else has access to it.
It's a strange place, not like home also, where you know the neighbours and can ask someone to look out for anything odd.
They were careless, and I feel nothing for the parents at all. i'm not saying the girl deserved to be snatched, but that the parents shouldn't be so damn shocked and surprised that this happened to them as a result of their own actions.
I do hope that the girl is ok, as she's the innocent victim in all this, but her parents are as responsible for her disapearance as the ones who took her.

I can't give my real opinions on the matter on a public forum :( I'd be hated so bloody much...

Actually you can, that's why this place works so well. You don't have to sugarcoat your opinions and you can be the cold bastard of a human being :D

Not that it's necessary, or in any way encouraged, and some people don't like it. But it's your opinion and you're free to exress it.

*ahem*

I think the parents didn't do anything that other parents haven't done(if not worse), the only problem here being, they chose a wrong time. I walked to "school" and back since i was 5 and no candycane daddy came along to touch my naughty place.

They've been punished enough for getting their kid snatched, then again, that's a chance you take when making those lil vermins.

First place to look - The Vatican.

Maybe the Nazi Pope will pull a rabbit out of the bag and we'll call it a miracle and the poor young girl will be safe

Then they'll want this fucktard to be made a Saint :wanker:

Its a Psychological Operation beyond belief........

The solution to chip the children tells me all I need to know about this.

Some would say they have been punished already with knowledge there lack or care of there children resulted in the abduction of one of there kids... MOST will agree they was very very stupid to leave them unattended.

End of the day the most important thing is she is found safe and well. and then persecute the parents. they must be going through a living hell knowig its there fault there child has gone and they dont know if she dead or alive and if alive wether she being abused or careed for .

No jpeg, most who have given it some thought, and been in situations where a child is in your care, will realise it was perfectly reasonable to leave them locked in the rented apartment, while they were asleep to go and get dinner.

Not one parent i know would think thats acceptable. They could have eaten in there room. I have talked about this at work and there are over 10 people there with kids not one would behave like this because this stuff can happen. When i have looked after my little cousins and been responsible for them i would not dream of leaving them asleep to go down the road for food. What if theres a fire? Checking up on them every 30 mintues is complete bullshit.

Some people treat their kids with cottonballs and fluffy worldviews, others don't.

I'm quite sure many on this forum are reasonably sane(almost fit for society), upstanding citizens who haven't been molested or kidnapped by evil kiddiefiddlers even though they might have had "not so caring" parenting. I'm sure i wasn't brought up with wooly gloves and bunnycandy.

This issue is only about a string of events that went "wonky". That all. If nothing had happened, Madeline would be playing with other kids, eating eartworms and pooping in their pants like the rest. And noone would comment on their parenting, even if they knew they happened to left their kid in a hotelroom once in a blue moon. BUT as something DID happen, the parents suddenly become "outrageously bad parents who should be hanged".

Silly really.

The room was not locked according to police.

I also find it sick that the amount of money spent to find this little girl.

When I was growing up, during the summer, I'd be outside from 9am and not be seen until 8pm. And I'm talking about 8 or 9 years old. My parents never worried because they knew I wouldnt get myself into too much trouble, it never crossed their mind that anything would happen to me - and we never lived in what could be called a nice housing estate, it was just a simpler time.

These guys really shouldnt be hounded for leaving their kids sleeping in a room that was pretty close to where they were eating, and checking on them every 15mins. People might say it was irresponsible, but kids have went missing when parents have left them in the bath for 30seconds to go get a towel to dry them. Heck, so many accidents happen to kids when their parents are with them 24/7. It seems a really cheap thing to say that they have been negligent.

The reson this gets people backs up is because the parents were in a eating and they could not even see the door of the room. And they checked back every 30 minutes. It would have taken 5 minutes for Madeline to have a bad dream get up to look for her mum and dad and walk outside the room where she could of got snatched. This is different from at home where she would be more likely to check the backgarden than walk out the front door.

When did the story change? I thought they could see their room door from where they were sitting?

Should Madeline's parents be punished for their blatant, and frankly in-excusable, neglect in the case of madeline and her brothers/sisters?

Discuss

Punished ? No. You obviously don't have children.

Its dead easy to lambast in hindsight. But - you don't leave a 3 year old on their own while you go out to dinner, so there's a certain amount of culpability. Whatever anger is being levelled at them by others, its nothing compared to the personal hell they must be going through themselves.

I think it´s highly cynical and self-righteous to sit back and point the finger at the parents, based on half-truths, rumours and the press (door locked, not locked, door in sight, not in sight). It´s like walking in the park at night, getting beaten up by a thug and people saying: hey, your fault, you should have avoided the park at night.
It´s a civilized country, there were no signs of danger whatsoever and no reason for special attention. If the door was unlocked, then yes, they made a mistake. But they are in no way guilty, nor should they be punished for that. Like Tohtori said: millions of people are doing it and just because something went wrong this time doesnt´mean that you can blame the parents.
The loss of their child is punishment enough.

a hotel room, i confindently assume that besides myself and/or other roommates theres 1 more key - the cleaning personnel or the hotel employees has.
the double standards becomming quite large - OMG LEAVING CHILD ALONE IS SO IRRISPONSIBLE yet some of the same people crying about that is crying about parents being over protective

lets go with the facts :)

They were no where near 20 metres from the room, they were across the street at a restaurant. At that time I doubt they were thinking of anything other than themselves (which is perfectly fine) However when you go away you take extra care, YOU do not leave 3 children of that age in a room, in the evening on there own. Especially when there was a baby sitting service available.

Yes they are being punished, and whoever took her is to blame, however the parents put the children in a position to be taken. The person that took them had obviously been watching the family and seeing what their pattern was. This was not a random person going into a random room and taking a child.

They should start spending more time with their other kids, and let the situation resolve itself. With the constant publicity she is more than likely been killed by now anyway. I hope and pray she gets found safe from harm but will the parents have learnt? We will never know.

One thing is for sure in time they will be questioned by the British media about there part in the abduction, the answer we are good parents and we love are children will not wash. the majority of parents love their children this does not mean that you cannot make serious errors when dealing with situations. I just wish they would come out and say it, I would respect them more.

um well if all the kids had burnt to death in the house it would have been 100% more horrible than one getting abducted and we'd all be damming them to hell tbh.

the thing is no one could have forseen it happening (which is an excellant reason not to leave little'uns alone, the sods get up to all sorts) and while i do feel they are suffering the deepest punishment i also think the media shuld be saying as well as "look at the poor Mcann parents" they should add "Who left there children unattended... this is why you should always have a babysitter people!"

rather than just ignoring the fact the kids were unprotected.

i remember being let alone when i was a nipper but its a bit different these days where you actually get people coming in your house and taking your kids, there was that poor little girl who was snatched while in the bath and there was an adult in the house at the time!

But where do we draw the line in prosecuting parents and accepting that "these things happen"?

A single mother can't go to the store to get groceries without getting a babysitter? What about a single parent on a holiday? Certainly we can't expect for every parent in the world to have their children watched 24/7?

And what about the age? Where is the line drawn there? Is a five year old better equipped to stay alone for 15 minutes then a three year old? In a significant way that is. What about kidnapped 9 year olds? Or kids lost at malls? Should we prosecute every parent for every thing that happens to their kids?

Sure, sometimes there are groce parenting mistakes, flaws even, that can't be looked as simple "accidents", but are we seriously planning on procecuting parents when the blame should CLEARLY be aimed at the perverts and criminals.

What's next? Mr. and Mrs. Hoopdaduu are accused of their childs murder when little jimmy is shot at a public place because the parents didn't buy a bullet proof vest?

On the matter of the room being locked or not, hotel rooms are locked by default, so i doubt the room was unlocked while their children were inside. It WOULD on the other hand be unlocked if someone went in and took the child. I doubt they would take time to make sure the other kids were safe(if there were any).

Rant. Mode. Off.

Little Jimmy was selling crack. The parents should have know to provide proper protection from the competition.

Going back to topic. I think Madeleine's parents have been negligent. I don't think they are the Ultimate Bad Parents. Unfortunately someone used their negligence to take full advantage. Many parents are probably squirming regarding this case because there will be hardly one that has not at some point thought, "Yeh it will be ok for a little while" ...and 99.99999% of the time it has been ok. Madeleine's parents will have thought that and now been proved horribly wrong.

Its very hard to balance between being protective and overbearing regarding children. Its also hard at times to accurately judge when you can or can't leave children unsupervised. I won't lambast someone for making a very human error of judgement. I strongly suspect most of the people pouring scorn on this couple are not parents themselves and are condemning them from the ivory tower of zero parenting experience where everything is easy black and white to judge.

That said, my own point of view when I've got my children with me is that when on holiday the parents are not on holiday - they are there to chaparone the little ones. If parents want a holiday...go without the children or wait until they are old enough so that it isn't an issue. When away with the kids, myself or my partner (or both of course) are always 'on duty'. This is a personal perspective though, I know it is not shared by all. Any freedom given to the children is very carefully within boundaries.

Everyone understandably needs some downtime. I do not excuse Madeleine's parents for needing downtime - they did make an error of judgement. Madeleine's parents were a bit selfish and are paying the price. I feel sorry for the parents as they did not act out of malice, just weakness. The saddest part of course is that Madeleine herself is the one paying possibly the highest price of all - her life. All three of them - parents and Madeleine - are victims here, the difference being that the parents played a part in allowing this to happen.

Who cares who's fault it was, the massive attention and priority madeline gets pisses me off. Similar to the queen mother dying... who gives a fuck?

People always seem to forget one major fact about this abduction and her parents.

They did not just leave madeline alone, they left madeline (age 4) alone AS WELL as 2 2year olds.

Thats 3 children aged 4, 2 and 2 alone in an unlocked hotel room whilst the parents were not even in the same building.

They should count themselves bloody lucky they only last 1 child. It would of deserved them right if they lost all their kids being so selfish,

Simple fact is if the abductor had been better prepared he or she could of taken them all, and it's pretty obvious that the person who did it must of been watching the parents awhile to notice this pattern and see the chance. I doubt it was the first night they did this to the kids.

Simple fact is good parents do not let their kids out of their sight on holiday, and yes I have been on holiday before with a girlfriend and her young daughter and I can swear hand on heart we never ever let her out of our sight even for a moment, no matter how much it interfered with our fun.

Class does not come into it, a bad parent is a bad parent regardless of what class they are, and madelines parents are bad parents.

I like how straight forward and easy the world is when you are watching it through a computer screen and being able to blame people for all kinds of stuff - even though you have no idea how the people really are.

Bad things happens in this dark and god forsaken world.
And I really don't think you can blame anyone for stuff like this... no matter how much the parents had looked after the children some sick fucktard could take 'em if he/she wanted to anyway.

I feel sorry for them i really do! Just imagine how much love they got for their kids ffs! And dont come and tell me that leaving their kids alone in a room is not love etc caus it doesnt affect me! When you vacation you want some peace and they saw the oppurtunity to get a night out and have a dinner just for the two of them. Of course they did not act treadfully when leaving them in the room, but wouldnt you do i if it were JUST 20 METERS AWAY? Try to look at it from two perspectives and not just from the view everyone else is looking at it! They dont deserv any more punishment, they allready got it! I hope that they find their little girl, if it was my kid i wouldnt give up until i had 100% proof that she was killed or still alive, and all of you would done the same!

"Ok hun, lets go back to England and have a conversation about this over a hot cup of tea shall we?", OFCOURSE NOT!! They do what they can do to find her, and not sitting home moaning! Have some respect guys!

Have you actually seen any images of the hotel and the restaurant they were at? saying 20 meters is a very kind distance. You want peace on a vacation do not take the kids. As I said in my earlier post there was a baby sitting facility available. And I will cut of my own balls if this was the first night they had left them alone. The kidnapper had been watching them and knew that they were leaving the kids alone. They played a part in it whether they want to admit it or not.

Walking into the cinema on sunday i heard "Madeline" and started listening. It was an audio-only advert being played before the ful adverts, about madeline and about how worried her parents were and how YOU could help by giving them money etc.

This isn't a very nice thing to say, and i hope i'm completely wrong. But they seem "comfortable" with all the media attention. I'd never go as far as to say that they're glad of the attention. Even though i consider them to be fairly selfish people (putting themselves first over their childrens saftey etc) i don't think they would go as far as to enjoy the situation they're in. But i don't like the way that in EVERY photo/film i've seen of them, they're there in expensive clothes/hire cars. sungalsses, looking very smooth and calm and beckhams-esque.

iunno. it just irritates me.

I agree with Nikon. I would rather throw money away than give it to those two to swan around wherever they want. Once it all settles down there will be some sort of cash fund appeal and, then the book about there horrifying experience and some shitty Hallmark style movie.
