Should Madeline's parents be punished for their blatant, and frankly in-excusable, neglect in the case of madeline and her brothers/sisters?

Yes, if they were a pair of chavs on the dole then one or both of them would have been charged by now.

Yes, im fucking sick of the media portraying them as innocent victims.

They dropped a bollock when they left thier kids alone, in the UK there is a law stating that leave a child under 13 alone ina house you will get them taken into care or something like that.

As they were on holiday, they should have been extra cautious as its a long way from home.

Its getting out of hand, releasing balloons and talking to the Pope

I completely agree, and I am shocked to see that the British government has not done anything about it. Maybe this is the reason that they won't return to the UK.

No, because the government is scared to do anything due to the Media influencing the public, meaning that sympathy for the family goes high.

Shows you just how powerful Rupert Murdoch is, he owns most of the British Newspapers as well as Sky Tv and a chunk of ITV, if he feels sorry for the family, we are all supposed to feel sorry for them.

Actually there is no such law in the UK. Basically, the law only states that children can be left alone if they are reasonably safe from harm and its the circumstances of any given situation that determine whether that is the case or not. As far as I'm aware, there is no set age for when children can or can't be left without the supervision of an older person.

I'm not familiar with the thread topic so I'll putter off and take a gander :)

yeah its bad that they left their kids alone but to say gutted its your own fault one was taken is just plain mean

When i was a baby parents used to leave kids in prams outside shopes when they went in

People used to let their kids go off for hours with their mates.

The parents know they done wrong so i dont think they need to be castrated anymore

Correct.

They done something wrong yeh but they really are paying for it, If it was my kid (if i had kids even) i would surely be doing as much as possible even if it meant going to the pope.

I have at no time had sympathy for the parents, they were stupid and leaving three kids under the age of 3 alone is a joke. If they wanted a holiday away from the children then they should have left them in England with the grandparents etc.
Only person to feel sorry for is the kid, oh and us tax payers that will now be paying their NHS salary for at least 6months in full whilst they continue to look for the kid.

I'm being harsh on this matter as they should have known better, and if it was some ned/chav etc then people would not be caring so much about what happened and saying things like "What you expect with a druck/drink addict family" etc. The parents are idiots, plain and simple.

What pisses me off more is the fact that there are tons of other children currently missing but how much are you hearing about them? nothing. Infact all the media attention on this family is probably hampering the other cases as they wont be getting as much information due to it not being the main story.

They do not know the area and thus they took a risk without quantifying it. If you do it at your own home then you know the area, the local people, the crime rate etc. Do it in a foriegn country then you taking a much bigger risk.

Oh, and i still dont think it was a pheado that took her. It more to that because if that was what it was about then generally she would have been found by now. This was a well executed take and most likely it had a different reason such as being taken to fulfill an order.

The media has a lot to answer for though on how people perceive this, because they are going for the sympathy but like me it actually turning people against the parents as more information comes out. It not just that they went out for a drink, it was the length of time they went out for. They said they were checking every 30minutes (no often enough imo), so you know they had been out for a long period. It wasnt just a quick drink up the road.
Further more, by checking on only a 30minute bases over a long period of time, someone watching could easily see there routine thus if they wanted to take the girl they would have known when they could safely do so.

Screw the parents, i dont give a fuck about them. All I hope for is that where-ever the girl actually is, she be safe

My parents didnt, they always got me and my sister a babysitter.

We are just saying its their own bloody fault and they are not as innocent as the media says.

I agree with what Corrawn has just said, I dont give a shit about the parents. I just want her to come home safe so all this bollocks can be put to rest.

When she comes home, I expect the social services to look into this family for neglect, if they dont why bother with a social services department that doesnt follow its own guidelines.

They should be punished for living the celebrity lifestyle while their kid is being murdered or sold for sex slave.

I completely agree with Gohan, leaving kids in hotel rooms happens all the time in fact my parents used to leave me when i was younger. Some of you need to get a reality check as you obviously have no idea what it's like being a parent.

No.
Total b.s to say "oo they were about 30 meteres away, charge them"
for what?
Does that mean, that when my parents put me to bed, in our house, and then did gardening outside, probably 30 meters away, that they should be charged?
Its an utter falicy to suggest that parents should be in the same room as their children 24/7.
They could have been in their room next door to the kids, or having a shower together or something would they have been negligent then.
Its not like they left the front door open.

My parents never left me and my sister alone even for 5 minutes to go to the shop. Just because there is always something that can go wrong.

The other thing thats bugging me about this is you read about some parents whos kids are kidnapped and they set up charitys ect to help all kids that go missing so far from the £1mil raised for this family they have spent every penny on there various trips t find Maddie. I wonder when they decide its time to move on what will they do with the cash? If they ever give up and come back to the UK.

They were not in a back garden where they could have heard if there kid was crying they could not even see the door from the bar they were in.

What we dont know is maybe Maddy got up and was looking for her Mum and Dad and when she could not find them she walked out side to look for them and got snatched

No, it isnt "their" fault at all. Its the people who snatched her. Yes, the parents will have the guilt all their lives but its not "their" fault.

To suggest the social services get involved is absolutely laughable. Tell you what, lets get someone from social services posted to every single holiday resort in the world eh, because I tell you what, the number of families who leave the children in their hotel room at night, asleep, while they nip to the resort bar will be in the thousands.

To be honest - the fact this is the first event like this for a long time shows how rare a situation it can be.
