as title. I need one. I have stuff like EAC for turning my cd's into mp3 and flac, however I recently was given some music by a mate to preview and I can't listen to it in my car because my car audio doesn't know what an m4a is. (neither do I for that matter)

*fingers crossed that VLC can do that*

helpor meh!

M4A is basically MP4, but for audio only files.

Essentially the two extensions are interchangeable. If your player can play MP4, then it should read m4a, unless there are restrictions on the player to a limited set of specific file types.

no Sar, the player is limited. it doesn't recognise the files off a usb stick, whereas it does with mp3.

tbh, I'd like to know if there is a fix for this in windows - I have loads of m4as and VMC dont like them.

Run them through Format Factory which claims (note claim, not tested by me) to convert MP4 audio (m4a) to pretty much anything else.
