I don't have much to offer this thread (and why anyone willingly enters into a discussion with Tom that involves cycling is beyond me :) ) but I would say on this point that, until cycles travel at the same speeds as powered motor-vehicles, they're not part of the "flow of traffic".

Disagree. Completely. 'cause you're wrong :)

"Traffic" does not mean "cars".

The flow of traffic is the general flow of traffic, some nobber wobbling about as he puffs and pants up a slight hill barely doing walking speed is not part of the flow of traffic.

In Tom's defence he seems to nip along at a fair old speed and doesn't jump any lights/pedestrian crossings and seems to ride in a safe, straight line.

I generally dont have an issue with people on push bikes, and do give them the space they need, but people like this do make me wish I could fit a big scoop to the front of the car. Then when I get to my destination I can release them all back into the wild.

No lights, no refelctive clothes, no head gear and dressed all in black... Not to mention wobbling all over the lane.. the only thing in his favour was he was doing at least 15mph and wobbled over to the turn right lane eventually.

By "clipless" do you mean your SPD (or whatever they're called) popped out as you leant through the turn?

Not SPDs but road cleats, similar thing though. No, I'd stopped for a pee 20 minutes earlier in a farmer's field. My left cleat was still full of mud and refused to disengage at first. That's why I had to try a few times to re-engage once I was off.

That's the prepatory yelp for "oh shit I'm about to fall sideways onto hard asphalt, and there's nothing I can do to stop it :("

I did a Sky Ride a while back was like 30 people there on so doing 25ish miles i turned up with my trusty old £300 bike with all these cocky serious pros with all the gear in the world there, was the funniest experience, obviously they had these magnetic pedal shoe things on, getting stuck to cattle grids :p

Anyway, I said I would, so here's some "highlights" of today's ride.
.

To be fair, there's also at least the same amount(if not more) considerate drivers around too. On a sidepoint; are all British roads like that? As in pissed on managed o_O
