In the past they have attended fires whilst striking so not sure the impact this will have.
Its a controvertsial strike - they are striking to avoid changes to shift patterns because this will impact their second jobs. Whether firemen should really have second jobs is a wider question...
isnt bonfire night a celebration of a failed terorist attack anyway?
Tube drivers do it all the time on busy days, so did airport staff. This isnt any different

Bonfire night is a ridiculous relic anyway, its asking for problems lighting fires and letting off fireworks. Not really something that sits well in our 21st century.

Its their right to withdraw their services, and the best way to get their message across is when it has a high impact. Bonfire night is a ridiculous relic anyway, its asking for problems lighting fires and letting off fireworks. Not really something that sits well in our 21st century.
You go to the wrong events then...
We have a great big fire every year in the village, not a health and safety weirdo in site. The kids love it.
London Fire Brigade has caused controversy by forcing through changes in the current shift patterns and reducing the 15 hour night shift to 12 hours and increasing the nine hour day shifts to 12 hours.
Brian Coleman, chairman of the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority, said: "Firefighters are going to be striking over plans to reduce a 15 hour night shift by three hours, and add those three hours to a 9 hour day shift.
That is all these proposals seek to do, no station closures, no increase in hours and no change to the four day rest period between shifts. This is about making more time in the day for vital training and fire prevention work.”
Anyway, firemen are a bunch of lazy bastards.
I was working at Siemens at the time....
What percentage actually voted to strike?
