Lock your own threads.

OK, seeing as the G.F. moderating idea fell through and things have been getting a bit heated up recently, I thought it might be time to propose a new idea...

People who start new threads, should at any time, for whatever reason, be allowed to lock OR delete them themselves. Ignus' recent thread was the general spark for this, but it's an idea I've had for a while now. Basically, it would cut down on bad stuff, yet still meet with the anarchist style of the G.F. that gave reason for people not wanting a moderator around here.

Anyhow, discuss & give opinions.

fully agree, people who start threads should have some sort of control over them.

Excellent idea - the forum would moderate itself

As a mod I believe I can do that to my own threads any where...although can't remember ;)

Well, the one problem is thta people will be unwilling to debate/spam/insult.

We generally do these things in any thread, in situations where they arise naturally. If you know some Newbie might delete the thread cus Bodhi's aiming abuse in his direction.. Takes the fun out of the forum.

the reason that was disabled was due to the mods being blamed for threads disappearing when it was not us but the thread owners doing it.

A lot of people kicked up and also if a mod locked a thread, the owner sometimes unlocked it and the crap on that thread carried on.

I know some of you (the regulars) will use it sensibly but it could cause problems, although happy to look into it. Dbs / ted are the guys to ask really :).

I suppose it could have its good points, i.e. forum would moderate its self to an extent but also bad points such as ppl causing trouble then deleting it or locking it the second they get a bit of abuse or something.

Imo just leave it the way it is, never really any trouble in here.

OK, then, how about the ability to do so only once you're a phnaargos resident or whatever?

How about employing a fucking Moderator, trying to run a popular forum without some overall power is thoroughly silly, and BarrysWorld have been lucky to keep an active userbase that generally moderates itself. Its blatant that it doesn't always work though, which is where a Moderator is required.

Its pretty slack to assume the community will all get along happily without some sort of intervening force on occasion.

Yes, yes, yes. We had a fucking 20-page long thread covering that issue a while back, and the idea got canned, like I mentioned in the first post.
Next!

Well I'm not going to read that whole thread, but the idea of an un-moderated forum is ridiculous no matter where it is.

barrysworld is moderated , but most of the time its ok as it doesnt become to immature and become a porn, spam and flame fest , well i think so anyway

Its not moderated at all, there are those who can kill threads (SAS, DBs, et al) but they're rightfully busy elsewhere - which equates to having no-one.

I'm also well aware of the tome that was the Moderators discussion - I posted in it. But unless someone can correct me, the only real reason for not having one now is because no-one could wholly agree on who it should be - thats a fucking cop-out of an excuse at any rate, as you can't expect to please everyone. In most forum cases its the owners who actively moderate it, without any such democratic institution - we don't have that (good) fortune.

No... Allthough, when stuff goes goes beyond the limit, the Admins are normally alerted in IRC and it's cleaned up. I am reffering to the Goatse spamming.
