i think he meant advanced games such as solitare, efcw, space invaders and other high-quality, top-of-the-market games

The Nvidia Linux drivers are actually on a par with the Dets speed wise(not so many flashy options to turn on though), which is why it's generally accepted that Q3 will run faster on Linux than Windows with the same hardware...
As for the other 2, well i think you're talking out your arse  :D

MSN is wank :/

That may be true, whether you've got a driver for your modem to play it online is another matter.

Trillion is supposed to work with AIM, ICQ and MSNM.

Trillian is Windows-only at the minute, though I do believe they are planning a version which will work under Linux.

In the meantime, there are already a few open-source IM clients that support MSN et al and run happily under *NIX, such as Everybuddy.

Ah, my mistake. I thought they'd finished the Linux version.

You ain't giving up, are you?

As it happens, i'm using a win modem, and i have a driver for it. Intel, being reasonable chaps, had a guy write an open sourced one, for all modems based on the `HAM' chip, which i believe the inherited of ambient or something. Works a treat :)

/me waits for 3rd challenge.
And yes, X has drivers in it for MS Intellimouse mice(the best mice around ;))

You need to be good at waiting when it comes to Linux drivers.

You may be lucky and someone made an effort to write or adapt a driver for your hardware, and luckier still if you don't have to upgrade to a less-stable kernel to use it, then again you can always have a go at compiling it yourself from the source code.

Yeah, it'll be a great day when manufacturers start releasing Linux open source drivers for their kit when it gets to market but sadly that is not happening yet.

BTW have you got a _working_ driver for a Netgear NIC please (FA310 and/or FA312) that'll run on the 2.2.x kernel ? :)

Well I can't get my Asus 8200 working in X on SuSE 7.1 I've tried running everything, but the things just won't recognise my chipset and I can only use the universal one at like 100 X 30 resolution for some reason.

Linux pisses me off. It's so over rated.

Heh, ATI can't even write decent Windows drivers, let alone contemplate doing Linux ones :)

Nvidia on the other hand obviously realised that they would be the exclusive provider of excellerated, modern(means no 3dfx shit) gfx cards for Linux gamers if they made good drivers. They've actually made their current drivers so simple to install, that even a chimp could do it.

Camazotz, i assume you've check http://linmodems.org ? I admit i was lucky, as the HAM chipset has drivers for both 2.2.x and 2.4.x, and they work flawlessly, but you can't expect people to devote themselves to writing drivers for winmodems, when broadband is taking over. I might be getting broadband myself even(allthough i've been saying that since december :)).

ATi have no SUPPORT whatever on Linux, as do many other manufacturers. Mainly because as we keep on saying, there is no real demand for it
As most people prefer (especially 2000 and XP) windows! Thus companies do not put time and effort into making Linux drivers. At least for gaming devices.

:flame:

Simply accept Linux is for the more Beardy users, who play very few games on their Linux system.

No, there is a market for gfx hardware in Linux, not just for gamers. It's small, but it's there. With 3dfx well dead, Nvidia are the only makers of cards and drivers that perform on Linux, hence _everyone_ who wants to play new games on Linux, or uses 3d software etc, uses Nvidia products.

As i stated, ATI cannot make decent Windows drivers, hence to suggest they are goingt o think about Linux drivers is stupid.

Yea, but how many new 3d games can you actually play on Linux?

Q3... Wolfenstein... UT...
Don't be surprised if Doom4 gets a Linux port.

Any more? Well how about this m8ty! Guess what! Windows supports ALL new 3d titles! SHOCK HORROR I know ;)
But you see my point :)

S

No it doesn't...

Windows supports all 3d titles that are maid for windows... In the same way that linux supports _all_ 3d titles that are made for Linux

There are games specifically made for Linux.

What on earth does this comment have to do with anything? He said he couldn;t get his ASUS card working. Asus use nVIDIA chipsets. You may be able to use Linux, but you plainly can't read.

ATi's windows drivers are fine. I keep saying this, because they are.

Linux is shit as a home OS. It might be OK for servers, but for home use? More will probably run on Windows 3.1. And as for Linux gaming? Don;t make me laugh. You are stuck with the PC equivalent of an Atari Jaguar. But at least it doesn;t crash!!!"!!"!"!!"!"!"!
